It is a series with 4 OVA's you need to watch before you watch the series.

yeah the only problem with watching the 4 OVA's is then u watch the T.V. show and u relize how good the OVA graphics are. Other then that the OVA's are called samurai X while the T.V. show is Ruroni Kenshin.

there are 6 OVA's for kenshin

theres the 4 part OVA that was made 4 years ago, that was a prequal to kenshin, called reminsice, and it was the prequal to the kenshin 95 ep series, from 96, which had a motion picture called Requiem for the Restoration Royalists made a year after the series (97), and finally 2 years ago they closed the series down with a 2 part ending (01)

the prequal is jsut so that you know kenshins past and about his oath, but its perfectly fine to watch the anime before the 4 part OVA
