God knows why I'm asking on a ESF forum but I'm rather desperate now...
Does anyone know how to DISABLE Internet Explorer , I've given up on removeing it its far to attached to windows for me to do so without ripping a few holes that will bring my system down like the twin towers.
But I have mozilla firefox and that works wonferfully , It blocks 95% of popups for me , And I've only ever had 1 popup with it , witch I quickly identified as a popup and blocked , However , Internet Explorer has just today taken to loading up popups , even when my computer is Idle ... And I've had enough. Please . Someone help me disable this ... THING!

c:/windows/system32/dllcache/ -> delete iexplore.exe and it won't respawn in c:/program files/internet explorer

That's a hidden system folder, you may have to type that path into your address bar.

And for you naysayers, IE isn't built into the windows shell ;p

Your problem is spyware, but why not stop it at the source?

Because the spywhere targets Internet Explorer , If i just get rid of Internet Explorer problem solved , I have about 8 Spywhere and adwere removal programs and I just can't be botherd with haveing to devote half a hour to each program weekly to get my PC clean , when I could just stop IE and forget about the whole thing.

dllcache isn't in my system32 folder , I have Win XP and Servace pack 2 ... but I still think it SHOULD be there... however , It really isn't.

Edit : ... Just read your post properly ... heh ... thanks...
<_<
>_>

Edit2: I found the folder , I cannot find iexplore.exe ...x.x Nor can I find it in c:/program files/internet explorer , all I can think is that they must be hidden , in witch case , How do I view them?

Go to Extra > Map Options > Display and there should be a box you can tick so you can see hidden files.

I think DPred translated the Dutch version to English differently than what we have.

Open any folder, and go to Tools->Folder Options->View , check Show Hidden Files and Folders, and uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files.

Then you should be able to see/delete the iexplore.exe's.

Error messages related to malfunctioning programs are minimised to a error log on my computer , so i'd just have to empty that once a day , witch takes all of 5 seconds.

...*Twitch*
......YEAAAAAAAAHHHH

I then got annoyed and renamed it "annoyingpiceof****.exe" to witch it respawned itself and prompty bombarded me with popups ... I have never even seen before... Its like it got new ones just to spite me.

Opon finding iexplore.exe and promptly deleateing it in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache I then renamed iexplore.exe in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer , to witch again the computer bonbarded me with popups . Some just blank and respawned BOTH files.

Restart in safe mode to bypass all the programs that are being launched on your startup. (hold F8 or Control while your system is starting up)

Delete the plugins folder and whatever else you can from program files/internet explorer

Delete the "backup" iexplore.exe from the dllcache folder (or rename it).

Then run Adaware/Spybot/[insert favorite anti-spyware app], then reboot normally.

Why not run the Adaware FIRST? It would make a lot more sense.

How to keep your computer clean of spyware, have no popups and keep using IE:
Get the Google toolbar. Not only does it have no spyware unlike other toolbars it's bloody useful with it's in built pop-up blocker/
Get Ad-Aware and keep it up to date. This includes downloading new versions (they don't update the definitions when they release a new shell.)
Get Search and Destroy. Despite not being updated in ages it handles stuff Ad-Aware doesn't get.
Get CWShredder. CoolWebSearch is quite possibly the worst kind of malware on the internet. This **** is nearly impossible to get rid of and has many types and gets "updated" (re: designed to **** you) often. CWShredder is specifically made to deal with CoolWebSearch and its variants and is updated often.
And if all else fails get HijackThis! NOW DON'T USE THIS IF YOU'RE A MORON. HijackThis! is both the best and simultaneously the worst version of spyware removal. Rather then search for spyware Hijack searches for EVERYTHING. It detects any add-ons, anything that's been added that starts at start-up, new plugins, new icons. anything that can be spyware related. This means spyware can not avoid it. HOWEVER it also tracks legitimite files including windows system files and files programs require to continue running. If you run this it's best to first find guys who know what they're talking about (don't ask a bunch of ****heads) and post a HijackThis! log. Then go from there.

Related spyware stuff:
Pop-ups that say YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED WITH SPYWARE, CLICK HERE TO GET XXXXXXX TO CLEAN YOUR SOULS! are spyware. Don't trust any of them and don't think your computer is secure because of them.
Don't think that if you have to pay for it it's better. Stick to the free ones listed above, they all work fine, unless you want the better Ad-Aware ones that work just as good as normal with extras.
MSN Plus! has a particularly violent malware build into its install the first time. Up until recently this was hard to get rid of but the most recent Ad-Aware gets rid of it. HijackThis! is commonly needed to fix everything that ****ing piexe of spyware does. After you eventually fix all the **** in it you can re-install, just don't click "install sponsor". You don't have this option the first time.
Virus != Spyware/Malware/Adware. If you have a virus your best bet is to either get a real anti-virus or run housecall, the free online virus scanner.
Mozilla people are not better then IE people. This can be proved by the mentality during the 90s of Netscape > IE, or Linux gives you a huge penis as compared to Windows.

Any questions?
