it has the thing marked on do not use an avatar and it won't come off

the avatars seem to be broken at the moment. If you already have one up, then its alright but if you want to change it, it wont work. Im sure someone is working on getting it fixed...or atleast i hope

Select the "Use Custom Avatar" option. Select "Browse" and then click the top "Submit Modifications" button.
And follow limits that Nretep posted.
