sure there have probabaly been a few threads about it so far, but its new to me. I just got a new computer, runs HL2 at max settings even on integrated video =O, (planning to better that soon) so i figured id was time to check this mod out.

bought HL2, CS-S and then downloaded gmod v9 (im cheap), it had a steep learning curve but i got most of it figured out now.

my cousin just got a new pc as well, and he did the same and we both fired up gmod for some fun, we both have our different things though. He is more interested in spawning enemies just to kill them, where as i try to build contraptions that usually involve several steps and usually end with smashing them with a train car. (and building insane vehicles)

but the best moment for me however was when i built my basketball throwing catapult (well thruster powered arm) to make a goal all the way across the level

it probably means nothing to you guys, but this mod alone is worth the sticker price of HL2, I am soon to purchase v10 to support the dev team.

yeah, because i can totally go back in time and tell myself (in the past) to download fraps =).

even if i did download fraps, i only made 3 shots out of maybe 50 =/, maybe more than that.

because of the looseness of the welds in gmod the launcher would never fire the exact same way. (unless i was doing something wrong). it would always land back in the resting position very slightly off center from the last shot. causing it to veer to the left or right alot more than you think it would.

if you know of a way to make it fire exactly the same every shot TELL ME, id gladly remake everything and show you

GMod rocks, especially since the update. I love pitting Antlion Guardians against Hunters Especially when the Gaurdian charges and the Hunter does too. It always surprises me when the Hunter wins and the Gaurdian crumples, if only because of the decent size difference.

I think the best thing about GMod is that it's a mod that keeps on getting modded with player-made content. weapons, tools, props/ It's really limitless in it's capabilities.

I tried to play online but the minute I create a server it boots me and says something about failing to load authentication library.. Do you have any idea what that might mean and how to fix it?

yeah, if its v 9.0.4 anyways.

go into your gmod folder and look for a file called gameinfo.txt.

theres should be a # 220 in there somewhere, change that to 215.

Gmod is also pretty awesome for comics. I made one a while back. Living in Hell was it's name. It looked really good, even posted it on these forums, but the link is broken now and I lost the files.

I honestly don't like Garry's Mod much anymore. Latest update killed my server, and they are unable to get the server back up. Nice pictures though.

GMOD is pretty cool, but I wouldn't pay for it.

I once made a pretty sweet catapult out of two huge wooden poles, four very large rubber bands, and a large metal container.

well i just paid for it, and i instant regret my decision.

my pc is by no means a monster, but it ran HL2 and most variations of it at max settings (save for AA and all that other stuff) at a very very smooth frame rate.

garys mod is no exception, but v10 though still playable runs at a noticably slower frame rate even with the settings dropped down to medium.

i disabled HDR, lowered shadow quality blah blah but still it runs worse on low settings than HL2 runs on high, its annoying.

Garry's Mod 10 needs a lot more than v9. I can run it just fine, but disappointed it is no longer a modification and there are no linux binaries available. I can't even get a server up anymore.

It's a stretch to blame GMod for causing fps loss considering the nature of the mod itself. One thing I'll say though, is that GMod can take a WHILE to load even a small map after you take good advantage of the hundreds of pieces of player-made content available. A definite word of caution would be, check out cool addons, see if they work, gauge how likely you are to use it every time you play, and commit to a chosen few. Oh, and do NOT go nuts with model packs. PHX is practically a necessary model pack, and it adds plenty of extra time to the loading screen.

eh? gmod v9=50-60 fps on ANY included map.
gmod v10=20-30 fps on LOWER settings, on a a BLANK map.

id say im pinning the blame directly where it belongs.


EDIT*** and it crashes more than v.9 =(
