I had trouble getting ESF to stream. I had to use FF Split with some ****ery for the settings. Open Broadcaster and XSplit just showed a black screen for ESF. Maybe that's been fixed since they updated HL, though.

If you were playing in full screen, that's probably why you were getting a black screen with ESF.
