Alright, well at the end of august I am planning to buy a new computer, now I have some questions.

Note I live in canada so maybe help with prices.

Here is what I want:

- something with 80+ GBs
- A video card that will be able to run games that come out in 2006
- Enough RAM to do things without running out of memory haha.
- Good amount of GHZ or whatever the hell it is
- Can run games
- Windows XP home ED.
- CD-RW
- CD-ROM

Here is what I want from you guys:
Maybe some links to good computers like this, or just name off parts I could use to help build this PC.

*I'm trying to keep things around 800 dollars canadian.
*Do not worry to much about the video card. I can always just pick up a better one at future shop.

Just worry about the processor for now.

I'm terrible with this computer stuff. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd recommend building one, if you're able to, and getting the parts off www.tigerdirect.com.
I've bought lots of things from there, they've got many good deals. You can even buy PC kits of things that go well together, and then buy other parts you want that the kit doesn't include.
Prices are in USD, but you could find a currency converter somewhere. ;)

I've heard good things about http://www.pricewatch.com/ from friends too, but I've never used it myself.
Just shop around on other sites before you buy anything from one, it's best to find out you can save a few bucks before you make an order. :)

800 dollars? and you want all that? your not going to buy a computer like that for 800. especially canadian money's. If you ARE looking for a computer that good. try going to pcw (PCworld) if there is one in Canada if you dont know how to build a computer. If you do then build one yourself. much cheaper.

::edit::

btw if there is a pcworld in your area. a good thing to know. my computer when i got it was over 1000 dollars american dollars. if i had gone to pcworld i would have gotten a computer a little better than this for 500. thats what i like about pcworld muuch cheaper

tbh PC World is completely crap... may be cheaper but to hell if i am caught in there to buy a pc package. better to build your pc imo cause u know whats in your system and what it can do better. also there is the option of upgrading at will without sending it to some crappy manufacturer (i.e. Compaq). my first compaq i opened it up so i could upgrade it my self to play half life and be damned if everything was crammed in there like it was a sardine can (things like that only belong in a LAN pc). oh yer and if you open up a case of a manufacturer pc then i beleive the Warrenty is void so you have to send it to your manufacturer and pay money to them to upgrade it and pay them for work time.
only bad thing about building a pc is that you dont get a bunch of *free* software/games and can be alot more expensive.

My computer came from tiger direct and its been a damn good computer...4 (maybe) years old and just now giving out to the new games. Did do some updating but you'll have to do that anyways..I'd shop there and do the best you can.

It's usually much cheaper to build a PC yourself from scratch.
Heh, I know what you're talking about with the small cases, Heihachi. The last pre-made computer I bought was some crappy Hewlett Packard, and it's in one of those tiny cases. I had to basically gut it out to make room for my hands when I put a CD-RW drive in it about a year ago. =/
If you're going to buy a pre-made rig, atleast get a big case so it's easily upgradable and expandable.

Here is something I've come up with:

CASE: NGEAR 6CN2WLT032 18IN CASE ATX P4 300W FRONT USB BEIGE/BLUE TRIM

HEATSINK: THERMALTAKE TR2TT A4003 ALUMINUM SOCKETA BLOWER 2100-4500RPM 11-27CFM

PROCESSOR: AMD ATHLON XP 2500+ 512K 333FSB SOCKET A BARTON RETAIL BOX 3YR MFR WARRANTY

MEMORY: INFINEON 512MB PC3200 DDR400 184PIN OEM

HARDRIVES: MAXTOR 80GB 7200RPM 2MB 8.5MS ATA133 QUIET VERSION
OEM 1YR WARRANTY

MOTHERBOARD: SOLTEK 75FRN2-L NFORCE2 SOCKETA DUAL DDR AGP8X 5PCI ATA133 SOUND LAN

VIDEOCARD: SAPPHIRE RADEON 9600XT 256MB DDR DVI-I W/ TV OUT OEM

SOUND CARD: CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER LIVE! DE 5.1 OEM

FLOPPY: 1.44MB BLACK 3.5IN FLOPPY DRIVE

CD-ROM: BENQ 56X IDE CD-ROM BEIGE OEM

OPTIONAL FANS: COOLERMASTER TLF-R82 80MM LED CASE FAN 4 LED BLUE 2500RPM 32CFM 25DBA

WINDOWS XP HOME OS

---

I have some questions though.

What is a network HUB? Is it one of those things you attach your intenret up to, with the lights that blink and such. If so then I already have one, so I don't need to buy another one right?

Also I hear that you don't need Network cards necassaily, that motherboards come with everything you need for the net, is this true? and would you recommend a network card anyways?

I'll have a price in a bit. Gotta check first.

You know you could always 'buy' XP with your modem. I'm not saying anything... but including that makes your total go up.. 150 I think USD. And it all looks fine, except you might wanna check other websites for better prices, I know thats Canadian money, but added up in my feeble mind with my current price knowledge and it dosn't go past 1,000.

*EDIT* This is what I came up with in a matter of ten or so minutes:

Fear my MSPaint copy 'n paste skills.
All USD
Blah, forgot the sound card, but the mobo comes with an onboard LAN and Sound, USB ports.
