Strange, and you are connected already to the GamesUrge server, right? That is strange, i've never encountered such problem before. Tried re-installing?

Don't use mIRC. Its filthy, and I dunno why, but since Kurt dislikes it, I dislike it /suckup.

Anyway, I use X-Chat, and I'm loving it to bits.

According to those pictures, the status is that you are "not connected" to GameSurge.

Type this command: /server irc.gamesurge.net -j #esf

You cannot join the channel without being connected to the network first. When you type the command, you should get messages like the folloing:
