im not sure if this works on version 6 of 3dmax but it works on version 5 for me.

okay so heres what you do

1. line up the 2 vertices over eachother
2. select both verticies
3. scroll down on the side menue untill you find weld, click it
4. repeat all steps for each vertex

oh and can you please post a pic of your model :p

or you can alway ctrl+w, i think i like target welding alot better though, right click on the viewport and click target weld then click the first vertex, then click the other one where you want the first one to be welded to, i only use normal weld when i import models and all the vertices are screwy and needed to be welded

unless youve just mirrored your object and want to weld them, in which case target welding sucks, just select ALL the verticies you want welded in one go, and click weld. your your mesh turns into a crumpled heap, it means the weld itteration is too high. it can be changed using the weld sub-options.

i can feel myself wanting to rid the forum of these topics by writing a tutorial >_<

also keep in mind that before welding, you need to attach the two objects first, under the edit geometry parameter (assuming your using edit poly to model) theres a button called attach, press that then press on the mirrored model and they should be attached to one group, make sure before attaching you have the 2 models alligned together, or it will be a ***** to weld up, also keep in mind that the mirrored object is a copy not instance, for some reason it wont let you attach if the mirrored copy was an instance
