Help needed

When I installed 1.1 beta, I installed it to right place and things but esf wont update, I tried many places to install.

If it helps I've got retail CS.

have you downloaded the most recent version of halflife? (i think you'll find you'll still need it even with counter strike retail)

no, i have cs retail and you only need cs version 1.0.0.5 .Half life have nothing to do with the cs retail.

If this helps, when I go into custom game to choose ESF I look at CS at it says 1.1 , I think thats something to do with it because like Zodiac said you get 1.0.0.5 for retail cs and ESF is 1.0 .

in the custom game, you are supposed to have :
counter-strike v 1.5
earth special forces v 1.1

You need this to play Half-Life and ESF online. If you have Half-Life installed on your computer already, which you should, when you install the patch, when the install path comes up, it should already be in the spot that you installed Half-Life to.
As the same for Counter Strike.

Ok where should I install the game to cause I HAVE RETAIL.

And do I need to upgrade from 1.0.0.5 to next version withh RETAIL CS

Oh I just found out that I didn't have the fmod.dll in the right place, but now I've got everything alright.
