It's only speculation, but judging by Valves previous security breaches it wouldn't surprise me. Plus, aren't you supposed to announce going gold afterwards?

Well that's what the guy who "hacked" the account said. But then again, why should we believe someone who hacked Gabe's account and lied about the game going gold? Even so, it wouldn't surprise me that much.

I don't believe that his password would be that. The person who did it was probably just exagerating to make Gabe seem extremely incompetent. Okay so he was incompetent enough to get his account hacked, but I doubt he was that incompetent.
