I don't really play many rpgs, but there was a game I played many years ago called Albion, which I thought had a pretty good storyline, and was an interesting slant on the mundane swords & sorcery theme.

I liked the storyline of Wizadry 8 too; anything that mixes sci-fi with mundane fantasy is good in my book. (I haven't played any of the others in the series, so I assume they had similar storylines as well.) I found the game itself to be pretty harsh though; it seemed that spells backfired too much and ended up cutting down half of your party.

diablo is an rpg, nuf said, a crappy one, but it was the first good online rpg, even if its a clone of another game, that doesnt change its genre,

my favorite snes rpg was final fantasy 3(6 in japan), followed up by final fantasy 2,(very hard to find game, its final fantasy 4 in japan)

my favorite psx/ps2 rpg wwould have been legend of dragoon if you could explore the worlds and such, it was too linear, but its storyline was top notch

but it would hafta be final fantasy 8, (i know some of you thought it was crap)

but once you see squall start to fall in love with rinoa when shes passed out and crap, and teh outer space scene when he jumps from the ship to save her (if youve ben playing teh game for 12 straight hours already it really gets to you) /me cries like a baby, that was the only game i was ever motivated enough to realy wanna punch the **** out of the final boss,

ff9 was just utter crap, the final boss you didnt even hear about ANYWHERE in the entire game until after you kill kuja at the very end (when you thought he was the final boss)

yea, i thought that FF IX's final boss was a pretty random event for a game, but then again every final fantasy usually has a fight at the end you dont expect
FF VII- Cloud vs. Sephiroth 1on1 CGI
FF VIII- never bothered to beat Sorceress's final castle, but I think it was final sorceress
FF IX- Necron
FF X- Yu Yevon

wow very little love for chrono trigger. And no we shouldnt include it as series because cross isnt nearly as good as trigger. I bought chrono trigger finally about 3-4 years ago from a used vid game store and the cartridge still cost 70 bucks due to the fact that its a rare item and its extreme demand. Price now adays has dropped to around 50, but still, thats alot for a old snes game. Not to mention for you dbz fans, akira toriyama did the character designs. Anyone noticed chronos oddly similar facial structure to ssj goku?

Pen and Paper RPG's pwn. Always have sharper graphics than any comp one out now, multiple branching storylines, the ability to punch an offending player in the balls if neccesary and easily moddable.

What more could you ask for
Some awsome 3D Gfx and crazy looking cinemas.

* It's obvious by now. FF's owns all of the above. Especially FF7.

- FF7, 9, and 10, are the best that I have played. 8 was horrible imo. :scared:

Bleh, if you have ever made a poll you would notice you can only include TEN subjects. Only the mods can add more, and I believe Cucumba added Pen and Paper.
By the way, I think VIII was my 2nd favorite in the series (then IX), I think it was because most people didn't play past the first disk, it WAS boring in the beginning, (unlike FFVII where it had more action and was a bit more interesting). And MOST people that played FFVII without playing the previous ones EXPECTED FFVIII to have nearly the same exact system (materia and all). So the majority of the people that didn't like VIII were the noobers, but thats just my theory. But lets not get into how much VIII sucked/rocked, tryin to keep this nice and spam free now.

Hey, Xenogears isn't up there ;( . I mean, Final Fantasy VII was my favorite Final Fantasy, but man. I'd say Xenogears is my favorite RPG. It has a good story, an almighty battle system, and a great selection of characters (To bad Rico can't grab Gears). Plus, the Gear Arena is great too (not to mention the 2-player mode).
You people think too much of the new ones. Yes, the .hack series is fun... but i found no challenge in it. I didn't like the "sphere" in FFX all to much either. All the new rpg's (not counting online ones) are too easy (not counting Elder's Scroll III) in my opinion. If you'd played Silent Hill over a dozen times, puzzles and mysteries don't seem so difficult. Jeez, I still play D&D, but i havent played for a month or 2. Now thats a game to sit down too, but if you don't have a couple cups of coffie you might fall asleep from playing so long (the most i've ever played was for 3 days). The only hard part about it is making a story and finding a good DM. It's all fun for the rest of it. My whole point is, people shouln't jump to new things because they look great. The oldies may look stupid, but there not. So go look for some old games and start playing them... that was pretty stupid, indeed. I guess i need to punch myself now (@")-@")*

Am I the only one who remember Fallout/Fallout2 or Waistland? Those are some of the best RPGs for the PC.

There is nothing like going into battle expecting to win and then watching the super mutant your fighting suddenly pull out a minigun and then it scores multiple critical hits... nothing like it in todays' RPGs. Or the lack of moral guide-lines for your characters like in the FF series of games you can only be the "good guy" but in Fallout you could be as good or as bad as you want, you could help the farmer rotate his crop or burn is village to the ground the choice is yours. Which is why I like the fallout series so much, CHOICE!
