The open beta was never intended as a playable version. Its a public beta test version.

The current play version is 1.2.3

The open beta was ment to report bugs
But as much as I remember not many reported bugs so they started the full version with no more releases (I think, I might be wrong)
Well that's what I remember ;D

A couple of people were reporting bugs and they got asked to join the beta testers. The majority of the people only cried about a buggy version >.>

And nihao I bet they will work in peace even there are people asking when it will be released.

All I know is they are bussy with this every day.
So there is progress.
