yes because my ability at voice acting clearly is how i base my judgement =/

They just sound so terribly cliche, which i think any dubbing does when you havent got the real art director there. Plus i really hate brolly's dub voice, he sounds like a guy who thinks he's powerful but really isnt, but in the japanese version he sounds menacing, and provides a vicious disposition.

But thats just me, I always hate dubs.

Thanks SV <3

Yeah Naruto's dubbed version is pretty awful as well, and its not just bad voices that dont fit the characters, its the westernization or whatever they call it, when dialog is changed to add stupid American phrases..

Im just glad the american version of the game will have Japanese voices
(probably getting a wii version, not once it comes out -didnt pre-order the wii-)

Well...how can you get an American audience to relate to a Japanese show if you don't say the lines in a way that makes sense to Americans? And trust me, after watching an original Japanese dub, for one of the movies for instance, it's really refreshing to hear the actors say lines that you would hear an American say. The original Japanese translation never fits well, because they often say things that don't make sense in English.

For instance, in "Rebirth of Fusion", I recall in the Japanese dub that when Janemba used a miniature version of Goku to counter Goku's Kamehameha, it xploded and Goku said in shock, "You changed the Demon Laws..."

Okay, now THAT made no sense in American. It sounded like babbling. In the US dub, Sean Schemmel's dub says "Was that...me...that shot me...?"

Makes more sense, and adds to the comedic effect of Goku's expression. You may not like it, but most Americans don't understand Japanese, and a lot gets lost in translation. That's why you have a dub in the first place. I'm sure the same thing happens with American shows dubbed over into Japanese. Me, I've always loved the Funimation dub, obviously, because for me, that was DBZ.

This isnt really the place to talk about dubs and subs, but I'm just gonna say why Americanising something to apply it to a market totally looses the artistic side of a creation eg. the story of dragonball.

Ultimately, you are going to loose a lot of content just translating anything japanese to english, I've seen people translate manga in different ways, but the same general message is carried across as you've indicated with ur example from movie 12. With an anime its even more crucial, not only do you have to worry about the words fitting the same meaning, but you have precise time slots where the characters are talking, their expressions on their face the movements in their body language, etc. Everything is based on the original japanese dialogue, so you're already making it a very hard job to make the dub seem fitting. Then, you havent got the same art/sound director as what the animation was created for and who worked with the original producers, the expression in their voices are sometimes very crucial to pulling off a well directed scene, with a different director in another part of the world, trying to make the show fit a different age audience its not going to be the same.

I know your opinion wont change, but neither will mine, fact is I prefer something original, produced by the same people who all work together to produce a tight and definative product. I dont like people altering what im "allowed" to hear, ****ing with plot lines and character development and altering scene atmosphere, all for the sake of people who dont know how to appreciate things from other origins for what they are.

Subs for life.

Jeez, dude, it's tv...your supposed to watch it and be entertained...not analyze it from it's historical backgrounds...if you force people to understand and analzye a foreign culture, you're not going to hit a very large target audience, and your dub will get piss poor ratings...can you blame 'em?

Well, other than lines used for ingame, the Budokais have never recycled story-mode dialogue. I hope the same applies here. Although I wish they'd gotten the whole speech straight from the show. I always hated that "I am a Super Saiyan!" line. It's so lame in comparison to "ALLY TO GOOD; nightmare to You...!!!"

Although I'm glad they got the first half right. They must be forced to match the dialogue to the model's mouths and the Japanese version hasn't changed the dialogue.

Sorry, i dont wanna bring this up again, but thats where you're wrong, Dragonball was shown in the US during the late 80's and got terrible ratings, they changed everything in the dub though, they renamed all the characters, called Goku something like James, bulma was Wendy or something similar. The ratings were so bad it was canceled.

I was merely trying to tell you what i believe is good quality, there's nothing about japanese culture you have to analzye or look up for dragonball, infact dragonball is based on a chinese myth. I was trying to explain how artistic requirements are more highly ranked in my preferences over buisness sense.

Where's my pan video SV??? Hurry, i feel sadistic >;[
