Ok, so dan keeps saying that dbz sucks, bla bla bla, well at some point he said that spirit bomb sucks because it always has the same power and Akira Toroyama failed cuz the power of the spirit bomb was equal when battleing frieza to the one battleing buu.

In the frieza saga, goku took the spirit of plants, trees and all small living creatures on the near-by planets (dan says from the whole universe)

In the buu saga goku took the spirit from all earthlings, namekians, family and friends.

We've decided to post this, now who is right?

Gokuu only took Ki from namek to his Genki Dama.

When Goku used the spirit bomb against Frieza, he was just barely able to get enough energy for it to be effective (or so he thought). There was little-to-no life on Namek or on the surrounding planets, so this crippled the spirit bomb. When Goku used the spirit bomb against Buu, he called upon the energy from Earth, which unlike Namek is full of life. However, Goku didn't summon enough energy for the spirit bomb for it to easily overtake Buu.

I didn't say DBZ sucked because of the Spirit Bomb. I said it sucks because it has a repetitive storyline and is badly drawn compared to anime like Bleach, which you convineantly masked with 'bla bla bla' >_>.

Dagon Ball Z (the show) ran from 1989 to 1996 while Bleach (the show) started in 2004. It's pretty obvious which one would be drawn better (at least obvious to me). The repetitive storyline - sure, I can agree about that one.

It was drawn by hand too. It's hard to be creative and make 300 episodes.

I like DBZ as a series and creativity point (beat-ups, ESF) but the plot is repeated. Baddies come, they own, Goku comes, power ups on both sides and then Goku somehow wins.

If they remade it but changed parts (like stop crippling Goku and multiplying their power every five minutes) it would be better. Also a redraw would be nice, Naruto and Bobobo look pretty good (despite me never watching the former properly).

I have to agree with you that the story can be a bit repetitive, but DBZ looked great in the time it was made. What you just do is compare Half Life to Half Life 2, of course Half Life 2 looks better, but it's 6 years older than Half Life.

DBZ was mostly bad because it was made preaty unbalance Goku had life in DBZ something like this fight agains Frieza first strugle 100 after the fight and prepare the Spirit bomb Goku's life was about -500 and when he turns SSJ his life got back to 500 after Frieza's Deatha about 25 I think but come one Frieza wiped Goku's ass real good if it was balance GOku will be dead like 5 times and in evry saga goku had like from -1000 to -5000 and back to 25 (I am just estimating the hp) -5000 when he fight kidbuu and goku was holding a spirit bomb and kidbuu ki blast him to hell

okie then.
In namek saga, Goku took energy of Namekian plants and animals. And even Piccolo's Gohan's and Krilln's.
Since that wasnt enough, he took it from the plants and the stars of Planet namek....

In Buu saga he took it from the Earthlings. from the two Supreme Kais and the Nameks.

True, but animation back then wasn't too much different than now. We know from Disney films of the time and several other things that animation was by no means vastly inferior. Animes are cheap to begin with, but the 80s were when they were REALLY low-budget. Standard animes do what is called animating in "4s". What this means is that at the standard animation frame-rate, 1 of every four frames will be original drawings. Basically, there will be four frames using the same image, and then another four frames using another image. It's why so many animes pop up. They're cheap to make because of this. It's why the animation looks jerky. However, animes make up for this defficiency by the practically rendered artwork used for the frames.

I heard this from my 2D animation teacher, a former Disney animator who animated for worked on several Disney movies. He's the one who animated Hades in the movie Hercules. Supposedly, animes at "1s" or "2's" would make them look cinema qulaity.

Toei was cheap anyway. Lot's of animes of the time period done by Toei have a similar feel. Plus, nowadays we use digital coloring, so that look better anyway.

DBZ didn't have a great plot. It was an okay plot. They barely develop any of the characters except maybe Vegeta, Gohan, and future Trunks. Even then it's pretty minimal. Goku, the protagonist, is completely 2-Dimensional, never changes and always wins. It's just really simple.

Of course the animation quality was worse... it was older, by a lot. The best animated episodes were still fairly good looking by today's standards, though. At least that's my opinion.

As for the spirit bomb, on Namek he was trying to get energy from the entire Namekian solar system. However, there was so little life, and he ran out of time, so he had a crappy spirit bomb that didn't kill Frieza.

In the Buu saga, he took energy from the universe, but most importantly he took it from populated Earth, and even more importantly, Hercule/Mr.Satan told all the humans to raise their hands and give it up willingly (meaning he got even more energy than he normally would have).

What's funny is that you compare the series to Bleach, which is practically a modern, slightly better version of DBZ. Way more development, of course. But the way Ichigo gets stronger, and stronger, and stronger, over a period of DAYS (first he barely beats a 3rd rank guy or something... then he beats a lieutenant... then he beats a captain... then he beats one of the best captains... etc., with huge power gaps between all of those)to the point where he massively overshadows all of his friends in terms of power. But the plot is a lot more intricate and so are the characters and their relationship to each other.

Anyway DBZ was good because it was a pioneer action anime. Today it's a relic, a little too simple and cheesey.

Bleach is drawn by hand, it's just that animation (in general) is now inked and coloured digitally, it's cleaner and it looks better, not to mention it's much easier to fix mistakes/put new frames in now.

I do like Bleach, but if anything is the spiritual successor to Dragonball Z it's One Piece, great characters, original storyline, I urge anyone that hasn't seen the Japanese version to go hunting for it, it's a great show.
