Quote taken from hlfallout.

"Some great new media have been released today. First off, GNA-Soft, the publishers responsible for distributing Half-Life 2 in Korea, have released a few screenshots showing off the new HDR rendering technology that will be used in the upcoming level, Lost Coast. A high quality movie has also been released showing over a minute of amazing footage."

Screenshots can be found here, here, and here (best one)

But more importantly is the video.

Click me to recieve orgasm.

Still haven't watched it yet, waiting in line at stupid fileshack (only 5 more minutes to go!). I'm certain i'll blow a load all over the inside of my pants when I do watch it though. Then once I change, i'll come back here and yell at you all to go watch it.

*EDIT* Found another site with no need to wait. http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/halflife2/Missions/hdr_lostcoast_q01.zip.html

*EDIT2* Jesus! I think this new HDR is reason enough for me to go out and get a job, just so I can afford the computer parts I need to run this. It looks incredible.

*Drools*

It's hard to believe that is actually a playable map and not a movie cutscene

Yeah, the image distortion from that orange window was extremely awesome.. I love that engine. What is this level going to be used in, the new HL2 expansion?

This is just a single level called "The Lost Coast" which will be available to download for free through steam. It's going to be taxing on your computer though, due to HDR effects, and because of the fact it that valve did anything they wanted in it without thinking about minimum requirements. The level is a special treat for people with high end computers.

Afterwards, HDR will be implemented into the rest of source. It will be in HL2, and the SDK, so mod makers may use it. But I don't know if it will be in CS.

It's a really awesome effect but I refuse to believe they couldn't have found a way to make it more friendly to mid-spec machines. I don't think I'm even going to get the map, honestly; I don't like tech demo/commercials in my games, personally. But it does look really good and will add a nice degree of flexibility to the Source engine.

Now if they could just fix that stuttering I'd be set.

I'm going to have to agree with Pride there. If you look at Brothers In Arms, the HDR was easily added to the UT2 engine (or UT2004 not sure which one it was) without sucking up resources. It looked excellant and ran silky smooth for me. I'll be quite dissappointed if I can't handle the HDR mode.

You also have to remember that it's not just the HDR effects their adding. When they were making the lost coast level, they made it with the thought "there is no minimum requirements." So they'll be pushing stuff as far as they can in every direction, or at least that's what they say they will do.

But on the other hand, I do agree with you. I definately think it will have higher requirements than the normal HL2, but I doubt it will be as high as Valve is making it out to be.
