Im trying to install the HL2 WinXP theme hehe, And I cant seem to change my bootscreen successfully, I did back up my old one, But It was just some crappy screen showing "OS/2 WARP" with a very pixillated IBM logo on the top right and a Horrible blue backround..
I donno what happened to my Win XP Loading screen showing the XP logo and the lil handy loading bar..lol,
But after I replaced the boot screen (in safe mode) And restarted My PC normally as instructed in the ReadMe, It still show'ed that horrible screen..
I am also having trouble with the log-in screen..the program wont let me select the HL2winXP theme in the select menu..

To use the halflife2login file (logon screen), you need LogonStudio, which you can find at this address:
http://storage.stardock.com/files/LogonStudio_rc6.exe

Once installed, just double click the file to bring it up in the program window, then click apply.

You can install the ntoskrnl.exe file manually by following these steps:

1. Backup (copy) the original boot screen file C:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

2. Extract ntoskrnl.exe to a directory other than C:\windows\system32

3. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode (hit F8 before the boot screen) or into true DOS (from a boot disk)

4. Overwrite the file C:\system32\ntoskrnl.exe (which should have been backed up) with the extracted exe

5. Reboot your computer as you normally would

I also followed them carefully <(T_T)>...
Thx in advance

My only suggestion would be use StyleXP, I've had flawless bootscreen changes with that. It's much more reliable than Stardock's products since the visual styles run through Windows as do the logon screens. You can grab it at www.tgtsoft.com.

Well I just restarted My PC with using StyleXP, And It asked me for 2 diffrent settings "Windows XP Proffesionall (Bootscreen)" And "Windows XP Proffesionall" .. I chose both, And they both had errors saying "Parser Window" Or somthing like that and said "Creation line failed "line 30 " Or somthing like that.. I had to push OK like 16 times to get it to the Old windows 98 style login.. "name :" "Password :" "Ok" "Cancel" blabla..
*EDIT*
SOMTHING also changed my homepage, An easy sign of spy-ware...Damn..
Also 79 critical objects found in Ad-Aware SE 6..Make that 105 now..sigh. :paper:

Thats odd. I know you get the two options of choosing your downloaded bootscreen or your default XP bootscreen (you can have Windows auto-load one or the other), that is added by StyleXP by default, just incase your new bootscreen doesn't work. So what your saying is, both of the options are giving you errors. I would suggest reverting everything back to default. If Stardock changed your default bootscreen to something that didn't work, and StyleXP added a new bootscreen that doesn't work, then that could be why niether options work. Try going back to default on StyleXP, then make sure your back on default options for the Stardock app, then uninstall the SD app, and try StyleXP again.
If your downloading bootscreens from www.themexp.org, then it does install spyware with every theme you download. I would suggest www.deviantart.com. I don't know of any spyware built StyleXP version, unless you got it from a 3rd party site.

It seems I was using "BootSkin" From Stardock and the "TimeWarp" Was chosen on there, That explains the crappy Bootscreen, Im just uninstalling now, But I restarted again, And chose the Win XP Pro (Bootskin) Option, And the HL2 Bootscreen was shown this time, But still the error and Old windows login..
*EDIT* Got a closer look at the error it said "Value creation line "30 failed" Or somthing very simular to that..

Your getting this error in DOS right? At startup? Sounds like "BootSkin" messed with your default bootscreen, you should be able to revert to default through StyleXP.
