I'm not very familiar with your problem, but the screen going black can mean one of the following:
1.) Too much of visual data spawning and not enough memory to hold it.
2.) Problems related to your monitor.
3.) Virtual memory shortage? I doubt it since firstly you have a gig of DDR RAM and even if you used up all of that (unlikely), your screen shouldn't go blank.
Can you double check that you are playing on a video mode that your card supports properly with updated drivers (preferably OpenGL)? And try playing at a lower game resolution/lower color depth. Such a setting would give you better performance anyway, and
might stop your screen from going all black again.
