Bad performance?

Ive noticed that when I try to teleport straight up I always wind up going in the direction I was flying a few moments before.

i.e
I side step left
Stop to stand still (roughly one second wait)
Press teleport to go straight up
I teleport left (note if I tap teleport quickly without any other keys at all I can teleport 3-4 times before I start going up again)

I was just wondering if this is part of the gameplay or just poor performance from my PC?
Is there a way I could maybe make this delay shorter?

its the game you just need to hit jump first i think because jump makes you fly upwards
