Heh, it took me a second to see what you meant in the image.

It's the back clipping plane. It's there so the entire map isn't rendered at once, slowing you down. With the type of maps you make in ESF though, it can become a problem since you can see it.

You don't have to pass any commands to your compile tools, just go to the Hammer menubar, click Map->Map properties, and increase the value for Max viewable distance. Hammer itself has its own back clipping plane, which you can change by going to Tools->Options, clicking on the 3D Views tab, and adjusting the back clipping plane slider.
