It'd be cool if players could do a variety of emotes in game with related animations. If you've played the game S4 League then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. You hit a key and it brings up a list of emotes, or you can type /<emote> and it will perform the action with voice. I think it'd be a cool way to let people role play a little while playing, like /anger with Buu or Vegeta, or /hello /stretch with Goku.

It'd make ESF able to be a social game, which in turn would increase the player base consistency. In other words, why talk in MSN when we can talk in-game on ESF? Consider creating a Microphone Enabled for Friends Only option as well.

It would take more work in the animations department, but it would add a lot more depth to the overall feel and community in the game. Plus in Team modes, players can communicate via emotes. Like... "I found a Dragon Ball!" and then the character saying something along those lines.

You do realise that even with the extended animation limits we are allmost full and the number is still going up. You can expect over 500 animations per model.

You seem to also forget that the games is fast paced. If you were to stop to write a word you'd get killed. (not to mention if you write slow)

You also forget that there are a lot of people out there that like to roleplay in a game. Games like The Specialists, a very fast paced action shooter, have had many roleplaying servers. People also like to make movies, and I can predict that people will eventually want to make some really nice DBZ based movies in ESF. Emotes will definitely help those people. That said, there is the problem Grega mentioned. The only way I can see this problem being solved is if the team precodes the commands for the emotes, and have people that like roleplaying create new models without any of the the standard needed animations, but instead create animations for those emotes.

If anything, I can see a few emotes being added to ESF, but everything else would be a waste of time imo.

We already use a hacked compiler for the models. Do you REALLY think anyone in this community has enough coding knowledge to pull that off?

Not with the XML system. Besides the only people who so far managed to actually make a working major hack into ESF are the people who are working for us.

I know what an XML is, but I think that's limit of my knowledge. Other than it can do some pretty cool stuff in the right hands.

This almost reminds me of Unreal Tournament, having a menu for various exclamations and taunts. Although useful in the hands of bots, it was a little fiddley to use effectively. Unless you knew the shortcuts of course. It'd still be nice to put in though, I can imagine fan-movies forming some interesting dialogue.

The XML tool can handle movies. Thats how our transformations are made. Just create the effect and call it up ingame.

But aside from a couple of verbal taunts im not really a fan of gestures ingame.

If the emotes were handled via shortcut key, like for example, you hit G and then the corresponding number key, it wouldn't be that difficult to use. And I'd think with that many animations you could just use one of them for an emote instead of making news ones. You could use the Idle animations for example.

It's mainly a fallback, like if you're getting bored, it suddenly makes things more enjoyable for the player again by using them appropriately (or inappropriately lol). Or if you're talking with someone, sometimes it's good to Laugh Out Loud. :p

Plan A:

Emote List with 6 emotes.

1. /hi - *stretching* Hi, my name is Goku. I'm a Saiyajin from Earth!
2. /pro (short for 'Provoke') - I am the Prince of all Saiyajins!
3. /noob - You better get out of here while you still can.
4. /qq - It's over 9000!!!
5. /lol - *Laughing*
6. /bye *Waves* Bye!

That's all I'd add, ever. The emote labels tailored for the younger, immature audience. :p
Keys 1-6 are easily accessible after bringing up the Emote List.

Plan B:

Narrower list... these would be the essentials:

/hi *waves* (to replace bye wave, but still has 'Hello' audio)
/pro
/lol

You could add these and add the other 3 later if deemed worthy. Emote List is optional in this case.

Another problem may be the number of audio files needed. There's at least one set for each character. Some characters like Cell, Buu and Frieza would need different ones for each form. It's not as big a hassle as models would be but still a little work.

It would provide a little more immersion though, which could be nice.

We have taunts. Thats good enough. They are random, but they are in.
