Interesting facts. Steam really encourages buying games instead of pirating them and that's why i love it.
The only thing i'm sorry about is that i didn't have the cash on my debit card when Left4Dead 2 was 3 euros and something.
After that i gave up on it when i saw Natural Selection 2 on 5 euros and something. Yeah...it sucks to be broke.
But i'm satisfied on how the summer sale went.

I wish I had seen that Just Cause 1 was $.27.

Out of all the games, the only one that I found enticing was the one that didn't take itself seriously at all - Deadpool. Brilliantly refreshing game.
Not sure if games suck or just getting old/Farnsworth

Video games are very slowly turning into our primary source of entertainment. It creates, what I like call, "Soap Opera Affliction". Quite a few games out there are generic, sightless pieces of software for the sole purpose of making an immediate profit. But wade through the bullshit and you can still find games like Portal, Last of Us, and yeah Deadpool.

There were parts of the game that I didn't like, but I still like seeing deadpool. It was a good game.

As someone who can't help but buy a game if it has superheroes, I don't get why people liked Deadpool. Shitty gameplay mechanics combined with the shittiest iteration of Deadpool? Genius, I guess.

I found the game mechanics fine, it was a standard beat 'em/shoot 'em up game. And how can you consider it the best or worst of Deadpool when there's not even a technically cohesive plot? The humor is a bit childish, but I still found a lot of it funny.

We like it because we just take it at face value, I wasn't expecting it to reveal any huge plot devices regarding Deadpool.

Uh...you can consider it the best or worst of Deadpool by comparing modern meme-spewing Deadpool to the intelligent, but broken and deranged murderer version of Deadpool. You know, the one who's humor is entirely inappropriate and funny because he's making jokes while threatening to cut an innocent woman's throat if she utters a word. The one ingame is quite firmly in the former camp. People who've experienced the character in passing tend to prefer the memes, and the "randomness" for randomnesses sake.

I took the game at face value, as well. And it was vapid trash. So like I said, I don't understand why people like it. It's great that you do, but it doesn't make sense to me. Also, complete disagreement on the mechanics being fine. If Wolverine Origins could make the combat compelling, Deadpool should have been able to, as well.

I guess that's fine for you, but we both differ in that I totally understand why people like your former deadpool. It's because it's the deadpool we've been getting cross-overs of in damn near every fighting game or superhero mash-up game for the last few years. I didn't even learn about a deadpool comic until I heard about this particular game being in development. It's not particularly bad, it's just not the Deadpool you know.

I haven't played Wolverine Origins and I'm assuming that it feels great to play with but, having never played it and basing my experience of beat 'em ups on games like God of War or Hulk, I say that the mechanics are ok. Not great, sure, but I think you'd be more nit-picking at that little detail than anything. Of course it's gonna be considered less than, say, Arkham city when it comes to mechanics. That's the pinnacle of the genre. and has story.

And, sorry, found the ***** slapping Wolverine scene to be funny as hell.

It's a completely cynical take on Deadpool. They changed him to appeal to the same people who think lolcats and advice animals are funny, so in much the same way soulless garbage like generic pop songs attract millions of viewers, so does this new iteration of Deadpool. Attracting those kinds of people doesn't make Hit Me Baby One More Time a great song, however, nor does liking a character who's dialogue was limited to things like, "BANG BANG BANG" and "SHORYUKEN" make that character good. That's the hollow version you were exposed to, and so you like it. That's fine. But for me, its like if the darker Batman comics came out first, and no one paid attention, but everyone suddenly becomes enamored with the 60s version of Batman so they completely rewrite the character to fit that style because its the most lucrative. So now instead of having a comic arc that delves into the psychology of Batman and his rogues gallery, or the philosophy Joker employs in dealing with his nemesis, we have shark repellent and BING BANG BOOM. Yeah, some people like that, but it's a major step backward as far as characterization.

I'm definitely not comparing Deadpool to Arkham City/Asylum. I'm comparing it to what should have been a shitty movie game, but what turned out to be pretty damn amazing both in terms of gameplay and characterization. There's no depth to Deadpool, so its kind of odd to compare it to God of War or similar games.

Now you're just being over-dramatic. He's not being re-written, it's just a fan-based video game that happens to be alright. It's not like they're adopting the comic books to fit the game. I found it enjoyable and a decent 6-10 hour distraction, mission accomplished. I'll read "Deadpool" at some point, I do know Wade Wilsons back story to a degree, but right now I found the humor funny and the "plot" enjoyable.

I wasn't making the argument on which Deadpool you like better, I get the feeling I'd prefer comic Deadpool as well. I'm saying the game isn't terrible just because it doesn't fit your preferred version of Deadpool. I've also gone over this with Hlev in damn near every video game thread for the past 3 years.

Edit: Well, really more like anything he ever comments on. Video games included.

Perhaps I'm being vague. The comic Deadpool has been retooled recently, which is why "zany" Deadpool appears in games like MvC3 and Deadpool. This is the portrayal that makes money, and so this is the portrayal they've gone with in recent comics. The old Deadpool is effectively dead in favor of "Knock Knock! BANG BANG BANG!". That's what I take issue with, and that's why I made the comparison to a 60s Batman replacing modern Batman. What happened was backward and his recent arcs are lacking because of it. Now, his best scenes aren't when starring in his own comic, but when he makes a guest appearance in someone else's. Maybe its just that he's had shitty writers, or maybe its because of the portrayal they've shoehorned him into. Either way, the Deadpool game is how he is and how he'll remain for the foreseeable future. He's basically Michaelangelo from the Ninja Turtles.
