With the information available at the time, it was definitely necessary to drop the first bomb. The second bomb was as much for Japan as it was for Russia.

This is not a subject that you can claim to be right in, when so many people educated in the area have vastly differing opinions. Considering you don't have a Ph. Considering you have 20/20 hindsight and you were not alive at the time, italicize!!! you can not say that I do not know that given the information available to them at the time, they made the right decision.

What was the alternative to dropping a nuke, Avenger? Operation Downfall was the alternative, and it left far more dead than the atomic bomb could ever hope to. Now suddenly, everyone is all like "Oh no, he should be stopped!". Everybody suddenly has an opinion on the guy, what an ass the guy is, and why many governments won't help the people that live in Libya. The guy has been ruling, or dictating the country for how long...40 years?

People don't care because they care, they care because it's in the news. We talk about it with our friends and colleagues, brag about how we would change the world if we were part of the government. But as soon as the next piece of news makes it into the news, we forget about it, move on, and stop caring about it.

Think more broadly when it comes to war. Military forces need only enforce and project domestic and international policy as it applies to the nation in which it lies. Wars are less about solving social, cultural and political issues, and more about masquerading as those things in order to accomplish its mission, which more often than not is the acquisition of resources for both it's short-term and long-term goals and needs or a projection of force in order to defend said resources. War is a tool and is rarely employed unless the stakes are high enough and/or it'd be easier to grab the jar of cookies now, when everyone wants bananas, than it will be once everyone desires cookies.

But you're right. No one cares. Not really. And unless you're part of the solution, you're part of the problem, right? So try to do the things people want to do but can't because of their low attention span. Attempt to make a difference.

Or don't.

The results are pretty much the same either way.
