Need Major Assistance

Ok like 3 days ago my desktop computer(which has everything on it which is important) got a virus and/or spyware and a few seconds later after the computer said it had a virus and/or spyware the whole computer shutdown then afterwards when i turned the computer back on, it keeps restarting before it gets to the Windows XP Home Edition Logo while it loads up to the login screen. But the really bad thing about it is it wont let me go in safe mode or last good configuration or anything because it'll just restart. I tried everything and i dont know what to do but does anybody know what it is or anything?

The #1 way to get viruses is by visiting porn sites, warez sites, etc. So a piece of advice. Don't go to such sites any more. I learned a long time ago to avoid such sites.

It is possible to reinstall windows, without loosing anything, Just programs that were installed earlier may not run. (Some will just run by just going to the folder and double clicking on the main .exe file).
Just when you go to install windows do NOT choose format, Of any kind, Just select "Leave it the way it is".
