Not sure which character this is. Made using plane modeling. Big thanks to Enix and Eclipse for sharing the Shippuuden Settei pack.

Looks like Orochimaru's new body (new to me since I'm still in the filler from the original series). I know nothing about modelling, so I can't say if it looks good so far.

block out all of your major shapes in the beginning. arms, legs torso, everything. then connect them, then refine the details.

also, you should be blocking out to your refs in the front and side viewports alone. use the perspective viewport for zooming round the model to check how the silouhette looks.

I've tried poopinmymouth tutorials before. I'm more interested in plane modeling. I believe he models with boxes/cylinders.

Dont make more work for yourself :) Cylinders hold the basic shape to most of the human body, so it makes it alot easier. I mainly use Planes for things like the face / cloaks / hands and hair.

Some great 3DS Max stuff there, go check it out :) you will find something that will help you out.

When you lack a sense of volume box modeling is handy.

sketching characters out for yourself helps a lot too. if you can visualise how he should look at any given angle (from sketching in those angles). modeling it will be a lot easier.
