I'm rather curious, is it worth switching from XP to Windows 7? Regardless if W7 is in beta stage. I dislike Vista as I have a lot of issues with it, but I don't think I will with Windows 7. And I'm quite the person who is really interested in things and using fancy new things.

Probably. Only way to know is to try it. If you have a spare system you can use to toy around with the beta, check it out first. Then if you like it, upgrade your main system.

I think you should wait for Windows 7 to be done. Until then stick to XP. :p

The problem is that I'm having issues with XP, random slowdowns and quite a lot of random cpu usage and I have no idea why. (No, I don't have any viruses or spyware)And nope, don't have a spare system. Not powerful enough at least to run W7.

Not really sure what my internet files / cookies, etc has to do with computer slow downs ^_^. Nice you are trying to help, but I'm following an ICT course, level 3. With has everything to do with hardware & software :p, and the boring network stuff. So I know quite well how to handle myself on the computer and quite a few issues.

I ran windows 7 on my laptop for about 2 months. All my games ran stable (cept those who were XP only, which is why im switching my main PC back to XP64), and the system itself virtually didnt have any lockups.

(Ofcourse there WERE lockups coz i was farkin around with the settings :p)

End thing: In the end, definitely switch to windows 7, IF you got a system that's capable of running it to its fullest. AND when the first SP is out for it :) Otherwise, just don't bother.

If you're expierencing slowups, do a complete reinstall of your system or run a hardware check across your Memory, harddrive and processors.

---

Incidentally, what is your systemspec?

Alrighty, how bout we create a thread in the tech bench so that we can fix this slowup problem of yours (Systems administrator and Hardware engineer, in your face. Finished ma studies :p).

From what I see here, you could run windows 7. I'd go with more memory tho.

For reference, my specs:

Intel Core Duo (3.0 x2)
8GB RAM DDR2
120GB HDD
600GB HDD
80GB HDD

Nvidia 880 GTX 768MB GDDR3
Oh and not that it matter but i like to show off: 28" fullscreen 2ms Widescreen :D

lol, if you have money to spend, I'd love to use your money to upgrade my RAM. No need to fix my XP slowdown issues when I'm going to switch over to W7.

0 bucks equals 0 GIG = 0 MB = 0 RAM, got enough things to worry about atm ;). But I'll download W7 and get a key for it soonish.

Right mr level 3 ICT.
If you computer slows down, were are the resources going?

maybe if you track that, you'll find out what causes it.

:p, That's the problem. I have no idea. Most of it seems to be used by explorer randomly, and that's it.

I'm using Windows 7 right now, much faster and better than XP in my opinion.

I myself use windows 7 at this moment. I liked Vista, sure it used more resources than it should have, but nevertheless I liked it. But 7 is soooooo much better. It starts up faster, everything loads faster, sends files faster. It's truely as great as XP in my eyes. Should you switch over; you should at least try it, it's great.

Oh and for you information. 7 Will run fine with even 512mb, preferably 1gb. I have 2gb myself, and it runs great. At this moment I am using about...690-ish mb's, but I have a couple of memory hogs running in the background (*cough* firefox and msn = 100mb) :p

I'm on Vista currently, I'm intrigued.

As I mentioned, I'm using Windows 7 at the moment. And I must say I like it much better than Vista. Though of course it has its issues with software (mostly with a few games), I haven't had much troubles or problems. I'll keep W7 for now ^_^.
