Why does the Open Beta Look Nothing Like The Videos?

The final game hasn't been released yet. The Open Beta is a few years old. The ESF team implemented most of the graphics improvements after the Open Beta was released, roughly two years ago at this point.

My suggestion still stands. Make the links to the Open Beta, forum access only. That way people won't get confused all the time. And you can specifically point out that its OOOOLD!!

From what the devs said. They said people constantly were complaining about it being buggy, crashing, and saying it was bad. Not alot of motivation to keep releasing the beta.

Yes, that was true. What does that have to do with the open beta's no longer being released? Nowhere did they say "we're going to stop releasing open beta's because people don't like them"

uhhh, except he isn't. people hated the open beta's, but that had nothing to do with the team halting the releases.

people didnt hate anything. If any people where just disappointed in not being able to play a solid version of this game. Due to the high anticipation of the game and the targetted playersbase age people just got agitated in not being able to enjoy it as much as they would like to.

In a nutshell Mkil is kinda right. We stopped production cause we saw we were not getting anything out of it other than complaints. Kinda pointless to divert extra attention to an open beta when the feedback is mostly complaints instead of bug reports.

People knew that what they were getting was hardly playable. Its main purpose was bug testing and positive feedback only. The Devs made that very clear when they put out the Open Beta. So when instead fulfilling its purpose, all it does it get you hate mail for all your hard work, that isn't even finished yet, it would've been foolish to keep going at it in that format.

In one way, i am happy that happened, because if things had gone as planned, we wouldn't be having all these shiny new features in Final. So all in all, everything has worked out.

Except for the fact that people DIDN'T know what they were getting. Rule one on the internets: no one can be arsed to read the description next to a download. That's exactly what happened. The community saw a new release, instantly downloading it afterwards, hoping for a fully featured release, only to be disappointed by not getting one. They rushed to the forums, posting complaint after complaint about how the team released such a buggy game. They never bothered to read the description telling them this was a bug testing version. Even at this moment, years after the Open Beta was released, people still DO NOT read the damn descriptions. And at least once a week, we get one of these threads.

I honestly do not understand why 1.3 is still up for download on the site. It's only confusing, and it isn't doing anything good for ESF's PR either.

So Devs, if the final release is still a ways off, remove the OB link from the site, it'll make everyone's life much easier.
