Whether it be due to characters, animation, story, or whatever.

By characters -
Durarara! IMO has the most stylish characters ever, and the single most badass/trollish villain, Orihara Izaya. Izaya and Shizuo are my favorite characters of all time, and their hate-hate relationship as well. Hell, i find it better than Goku's and Vegeta's relationship :V

By animation -
Bakemonogatari, no contest. Has some of the best animation i have ever seen, the story is fairly interesting as well.

By story -
Many will probably disagree with me, but Code Geass is the best anime for me, probably because it was one of the first animes i watched, and the story really affected me D:

Which anime do you guys consider to be the most stylish?

Big O always had a sense of class, I'd call it stylish.

Planetes and NGE also deserve mention. Both having fantastic story-lines and wonderful character dynamics.

I'll post some of my favorites that have a unique art style as well as being well written.

Kaiba

Mononoke - Music for the OP was also done by one of the guys who did music for Katamari Damacy :p

Requiem from the Darkness/100 Ghost Stories (literal translation of Kyousetsu Hyaku Monogatari) - The dub is pretty good at that. Gets the characters pretty well. Momosuke tho is kinda meh.

Gankutsuou - Basically, a sorta future punk version of the Count of Monte Cristo

*edit* And Baccano is great. I love the way they mess with the Narrative.

The fight sequences were also really stylish.

What are you talking about? Cowboy Bebop is like Naruto, far over-rated.

Trigun was so much better, it got the cowboy feel down way more, better characters, and oh yeah, it had a story. :p

As for most stylish, that's hard to say, as the definition of stylish differs from person to person and medium to medium. Don't want to really name one.

I've seen a little Cowboy Bebop, it gives a good first impression. Trigun was pretty good, a shame about the ending though.

Going back to NGE, the design of the EVA's and the angels were astounding. I personally prefer the EVA design over typical mecha like the Gundams. They seemed so organic it was scary (initially anyway). Big O also offered unusual design, Big O seemed more human despite being horribly proportioned. The villain Beck was also very distict, along with his afro and banana yellow suit.

I hate NGE, far to much emo-ness in it, the main character was such a wimp...couldn't stand it. Designs were cool though.

And what do you mean, shame about Triguns ending? It ended in a pretty good way...not sure how else you would have ended it. 26 Episodes is the perfect amount of episodes to tell a story, very few that go over it are worthwhile to watch. Trigun never got a second season; because the author did what he set out to do, tell a story he created, simple as that. Not sell out and make 3-4 Seasons.

Dragonball GT!... Style and general feel of the Anime would have to be Samurai Champloo, come on, a bboying Samurai and the hiphop inspired intro and recaps in the beginning of a certain episode. A favorite of mine is also Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, I think the art really pulled it's weight to bring in that epic-humor. Story wise, it would be one of those Death Note x Code Geass.. But the best of all times is the never ending One Piece.

I guess it's not for everyone, Shinji being a wimp did allow a lot of character exploration though.

Trigun's ending was very short and anti-climactic.
Knives was defeated far too easily for someone of his power.
Although otherwise, the story was great, although a slightly longer ending, say even just another episode, could have made a difference.

Far to easily? Vash was his brother, his TWIN brother, they were pretty much equal in his power, infact, Vash may have been stronger, as he's survived on the planet in constant combat for over 100 years, while Knives has kinda stayed back and hired goons to fight Vash. Knives knows more about their powers; but in the all-out gunfight, Vash has trained much more, and therefore, would be the victor. One more episode could have dragged it out. I felt it perfect. IT was 7 minutes of fighting, no talking, pure fighting...I respected that. That moment when they both have their guns pointed at each others heads, and both pull the Trigger, and nothing...like Russian roulette, was intense as hell, I was even holding my breath at that part. The looks on their faces were awesome.

What would you have expected Knives to do? He pulled out the Angel Arm, their ultimate move, which Vash countered with his own, so at that point it was down to the best Gunman. Vash also had Wolfwoods surprise. Also, given that Vash was another of whatever Knives was, chances are his powers wouldn't work on him...or else Knives would have used them, obviously. The first time he controlled Vash was because of his weak will, but over the course of the anime, he strengthens his will, and resolve, and decides to live on his own terms. Hence, he is mentally too strong for Knives's control.

For visual style, Dragon Ball, latter half "Z", depending on the artists/animators (for its time, perhaps). The fighting was kind of before its time, and it did nearly all things better than any American action cartoon had in those days.

Sure there are all kinds of visually stylish anime now, but many of them have no other redeeming qualities, really. If any of them deserve the medal for "Most Stylish", it'd be either Cowboy Bebop, or Samurai Champloo.

You can't get more stylish than Freddy:

I agree that it was very well choreographed but it didn't quite give out final encounter vibes; it was still enjoyable though. There's also the matter of the vague ending, although the absence of any real dialogue was a nice touch.

Cromartie High was certainly distinct, especially in its cast. Mechazawa was another of my favourites.

The second half completely ruined it for me. I was actually quite irritated, the first half of that series is one of my favorite anime storylines of all time.

How could I forget this one, quite "new" and it's a story that captures everybody! It reminds me a lot of the movie "Sleepers", but with the usual Japanese propaganda... "you can become anything you want, hardwork is key, friends are important, don't go back on your word" etc. Gives a very good depiction of how it was to live in Japan after WWII.

I just love how it illustrates the psychotic facial expressions á la Sasuke and it's so dirty and gritty, without inhibition.
