Uuuuuupdated!

Case: Coolermaster HAF 932 - Black Steel with a nice red LED fan in front.
Mobo: ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel - Coulda had a better layout, but meh.
CPU: Intel Core i7 950 3.06 mhtz
Ram: CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 470 Superclock - 1280 MB Vram - runs cooler, quieter, and faster than reference.
PSU: Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-D-B 850W - not modular and doesn't have a great history for reliability but it's probably being replaced in a year anyway.
HDD 2X Western Digital Caviar Black WD1501FASS 1.5TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5 - coulda gone Sata 3 but that gets expensive. - Raid 1.
Display: Acer H243Hbmid 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit

When I upgrade I'm probably looking at another 470, maybe some kind of SSD or getting another HDD and going raid 3 - in addition to a new PSU.

I once had a 1000W coolermaster and had a pretty extreme setup. Then switched to a 650Watt Bequiet and still everything worked flawless.

Try to figure out how much you exactly need, because a too powerful power supply leads to inefficiency and thus more unnecessary warmth in your case.

GTX 480 in sli draws 680W during gaming (Crysis, realistic load) and ~850 during stress testing. The 480 is the most power hungry card and even for that a 1000W PSU is slight overkill (You'll want your power draw to be between 30 and 80% of the PSU rated spec).

The numbers are system power consumption, not just the cards.

WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE RIGGS FOR **** SAKES????????????????????????

Do you pay 2000$ for your PCs? How much time you use your new pc before you buy a new one?
and the last question: why you need such powerhouses?

This refers to all the people with sick systems (like KelesK and Karrde)

Seriously, I would like some answers.

Some people do have their own income and can decide what kind of computer they want/need.

@Sicron.

Screw your laptop open and put the mainboard in the oven @ 200C for 10min. Works like a charm. It's temp fix so you have a laptop for another half year.

I already did it 4 times and was 4 times successful.

I have done that, and it did indeed work. But for some reason, I think I may have damaged something accidentally on the motherboard. it won't start up anymore 95% of the time. It's shorting out somewhere, though I have yet to find the exact origin of the problem. I think my actual power button is broken. And the company that supplied my laptop doesn't exist anymore. So I am pretty much forced to buy a new laptop now, unless I can find replacement parts elsewhere.
