You can basically get the idea of my car from this one... I ordered the exact same body kit... but my paint job was Silver

1999 Honda Civic if you may ask
Nice but way too many Civics around if you ask me. If I had the $$ I'd go with an SRT-4 (Neon) -- Fastest car you can get for $21k

That's odd, most mazda six's have a spoiler on them. What year is it?

Love the look of the Mazda 6 - looks like the Classic spec (no spoiler)

Ohhhh, dude. That car is pimp! I'm getting one of those as soon as I save up the money! What make and model is that? I wonder how well it handles, and how fast it will go if I push it down a hill.

The biddle-dee-boop on the back of some cars :p -- Some people call it a "wing" but that is pretty dumb.

bull crap? I guess having more traction is bullcrap then because that's what spoilers do. The ONLY time a spoiler is pointless is when you see it on a minivan or an SUV (god i hate that) and don't give me that "It keeps the dirt from getting ont he back window" because that's a load of crap >.>

Spoilers are supposed to increase downforce, improve aerodynamics and reduce drag at high speeds. They don't directly improve traction in the way that a better quality tyre would - it puts pressure on the area directly underneath the spoiler and pushes the tyre towards the ground therefore creating a greater surface area of rubber touching the ground at any time.

Spoilers that are effective at very low speeds often generate excessive drag at high speeds, and spoilers that work well at high speeds are often ineffective while moving slowly. So half the ones rolling around on the streets do absolutely nothing at all even slowing the cars down in some case.

Goes along with the whole foolish looks mentality that "tuners" have these days. If you don't have an aftermarket turbo, a four inch exahust on your Civic EX is going to turn your accelleration into poo.

Yeah, I hate seeing people riding around with "skyscraper" spoilers that look sooo damn stupid and you know they are never going to go fast enough for it to be useful :/

Here's what I have (Not actually my car, but the same model/year)

and the more tire touching the ground the more traction you have hence nascar tires have no tread in them.

Spoilers aren't ment for low speeds, they are ment for high speeds. And it doesn't put more pressure underneath the spoiler, the pressure underneath the spoiler never changes...ever. Unless you change in altitude. Moving air has a lesser push (lesser atmospheric pressure) than still air. The spoiler pushes the air up over the spoiler causing a pressure difference between the top and bottom of the spoiler. So the pressure underneath the spoiler pushes down on the trunk of the car, thus giving it more traction. Take a car with no spoiler, and the same car with a spoiler and test them out, you'll be able to turn sharper with out spinning out. Granted the turn won't be a 45 degree turn but there's a signifigant difference.

I personally wouldn't want a spoiler on my car unless it had a wind dam. Maybe side skirts, but those aren't as important to me because they aren't very necissary.

So in short spoiler = more aerodynamic. So when you put a spoiler on an SUV or minivan, it doesn't do ****, because the air is more likely to go under it anyway. Either that, or there is nothing to push down on even if the air did flow over it. In fact, if my logic is right, it would worsen the aerodynamics of the car because the pressure under the spoiler would be worse creating lift. And that's not good.

And one more thing: Spoilers (depending on the shape) work at certain speeds. There needs to be a certain ratio of pressure change in order for the downforce to occur. Weight of the car also has a lot to do with it. So again, spoilers won't work at low speeds.

I believe Kyo meant relatively low speeds, like the 80-120 mph range like a typical touring wing might see on a turn heavy circuit. Also, a front spoiler is very helpful in reducing air flow under your car, which can cause lift and loss of control.

Thanks Cuc, thats what I meant :)

Like the Bugatti Veryon which has a 4 different aerodynamic settings which change automatically as you hit each metric ton 0-100, 101-200, 201-300, 301-400kmh.

Even the Mitsubishi GTO\3000GT had a similar system though it wasn't as advanced and just changed once at speeds over 60km\h.

I do however like the spoilers on the Porches that come up by themselves at high speeds and retract at lower speeds - keeps the body nice and understated.

Four inch exhaust is useless unless you are pushing 800+whp on any given car. Nick Hogan(hulk hogan's son) his mk4 supra used to run 3 inch on his old turbo setup ran about 550-600whp, on his BB turbo he switched to 4 inch and dyno'd 950hp, now if he ran 3 inch you could cut off about 50-100hp easily.

BTW if you want to see his supra, its on Hogan knows best every once in awhile, turbo is huge aswell. This sunday's episode shows the engine bay.
