What is the philosophical significance of the first two rules of fight club?

In my philosophy course we watched the movie fight club. our assignment has the question stated above. my teacher tried to explain ti for me. i tried googling it. i tried asking my sister (a philosophy major) andddddddd i tried asking friends in the course. im LOST! i have no idea what to write :/ please if you know id love your help
