What is client 48 in ESF 1.2.3?

hello i have a thing that i don't understand it in the game when i connect to server:-

when i connect to server it shows an error in connecting and it's about a client 48 and it said i have to update my client 47,What is the client?

Thats an error you get when trying to connect to a server using an illegal version of HL1
