I prefer the german version ^^

in german, I understand everything without reading or concentrating....

DBGT isn't out in german.. I like the japanese version... I like the voices, espacially of kid-goku....

I havn't really ever seen englisch DBZ/GT.. i heard the voice of Vegeta, which I don't really like...

don't know if the englisch version is cutted so much, but japanese version is totally uncut, which is a plus for japanese aswell...

so.. i would say, japanese is better then english.... ;-)

If we're talking European languages then i'm going to vote for Spanish. El Gringo Muchacho Friéza sounds the best in that dub.

I always perfer the language it was originally intended to be, Funimation screws up the script so bad, half the time they totally create another story. I did however think the ocean's group dub was good, the series was edited for TV but if you own the original 3 movies, the english dub is totally uncut, they even curse, and it's usually on par with the japanese version as far as translation goes. In my opinion the Japanese sound track fits the Japanese language perfectly, if you don't like it, then you don't like how Akira created the show, anything in english, even the english sound track is TOTALLY fake, it's not REAL Dragonball Z.

English version all the way. The Japanese voices sound retarded (plus I only know English DX), and the Japanese music sucks. This is my opinion, so don't let it effect yours.

Doesn't change the fact that it sucks XD. Even if the English music and all is fake, it doesn't mean the fake version can't be better than the real version. I would rather see fake than real if it was in this case.

No, the english (or as i call it, the americanised kids version) has nothing going for it.. at all. Real > fake. When you take a show created for 15 year olds and above, then edit the script, add new scenes, take away other scenes (such as replacing buu destroying a city - with buu eating cakes), shove in as many flashbacks as you can and then remove a musical score sound track and replace it with electro metal crap that always sounds the same - in short - make it for 8 year olds and above, it looses the authenticity, originality, and the entire feel to the story/show behind it. It does it to such a degree that I cant take the show, the actors, or the music at all seriously. Freedom is 100% correct imo. This is my opinion, in the hope it'll effect yours.

The point of having the english version seperate from Akira's view is a good one.

But owning/seeing uncut episodes of the series, I sitll prefer the english. Somestimes the japanese script seems to fit better, but I guess it's because I heard english first (since I prefer japaense Naruto than english Naruto because I saw the Japanese one first)

But still, the high pitched voices annoyed me (though other character's were done well). Even if it wasn't Akira's view, perhaps japanese and american culture do not see some things eye to eye, making some (defiantly not all) "changes" necessary.

The Japaneses music to me seemed way too cherry for some parts while Falconer's tracks usually fit the mood (but were played way too much or reused too much). I can't really recall the cuts of the series though. What I want to know is what Akira thought of the uncut US versions compared the to the Japanese ones.

Your kidding right? Yes, the Japanese version has more of the action in it, but do you really enjoy listening to those whiney ass voices and that retarded music? I don't understand how anyone can enjoy that music...It doesn't even fit the show, let alone an action show. The music is slow paced and sounds so stupid it's not even funny. I remember I got a bunch of my friends who actually like Dragon Ball Z, and we tried to watch a Japanese episode. They all said that the voices weren't so bad, and that's not what messed up, but the fact of having slow-paced retarded sounding music in an "action" show. On the other hand, the American music is fast-paced and sounds really cool, stuff like that actually fits an action show. Now about those voices...My god...It's just so annoying! Yeah, your right about Goku sounding retarded in the American version, but I would rather listen to retarded than girley.

Both of em, and I think the japanese language sounds a lot more heroic/has more impact than the american dialect. I couldnt give a **** about some metal/techno music, it all sounds the same, which imo, is crap, through and through. I'd rather have something composed with a much more emotive and situationally effective music than what i think almost sounds like dodgy porn music.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha............More heroic? You made me literally fall out of my chair reading that. How does that sound heroic to you...? Are we talking about the same version...? The music for the English version may not be good to you, but it fits the show way better than what they have on the Japanese version. Maybe that's why they changed it from that music to what you call crap....Maybe cause um....It sucks?

It's pretty stupid to blame the dubs shortcomings on filler and editing;

1) Filler (Buu eating cakes) isn't the responsibility of the dubbing company - it's the Japanese animation company that's to blame (Toei).

2) If you're watching the edited dubbed version, you're watching the wrong dubbed version. Watch the Ultimate Uncut versions, the only thing that's different is the language, the voices and the music. Both content and context remain the same.

I'll openly admit that the edited version is crap, but the uncut is fantastic. Given that I prefer the english language, the voices and Faulconer's music, I think it's better than it's japanese counterpart.

Thank you Ravendust, you make a great point. And yes, the Uncut American episodes are ten times better than the Edited American episodes.

I dont understand how you can blame the japanese company for what american companies did Ravendust, what would toei gain from editing something that they gave the american/canadian dubbing companies in full with the rights to edit how they wish? Its really quite simple how they manipulated the market too; first they show the show on tv, slowly and slowly to build up a fanbase, then they release their dvd's collecting their dues, while everyone is wanting an uncut version because of how its paced and edited, they then decide to sell the "uncut" dvd's at a higher price. The principle behind that alone is enough to put me off the dubbed version. I also mentioned, its also about the english language, and the acting behind it, to me none of the dubbed characters sound believable in either their acting or their screams and bellows which go on for god knows how long. Also, on this matter of personal preference, i said i prefer the japanese language, not only because i think its more emotive and effective, but because it sounds better. As an example i'll refer to another japanese movie scene which i think you would agree that the japanese sounds much more epic and more in fitting with the scene - FF7- ADVENT CHILDREN SPOILER When sephiroth appears near the end he utters the words "Its been a while Cloud" to me, if that was said in english it'd completely ruin that moment, not because of the talent of the actors, but because the way it sounds in japanese doesnt make it sound cheesy, the way we speak doesnt relate to the feelings that are supposed to be displayed at those moments, like how great english films must seem when dubbed in another language. Taking a well constructed emotive scene written in another language, and translating it into another language will loose some of the things that make it effective, because there are simply things in what are said which you cannot translate, it is something I have noticed in all subs/dubs. Whilst reading it isnt the same, hearing it still brings about something we can all relate to, on a different level of understanding.

I'll always prefer a sub over a dub, for that reason alone. I also still think Faulconer's music is something ive heard in a cheap porno.

It's not FUNimation's fault that Toei created filler. Regardless of whether they decide to cut it or not, Toei still created it. I wrote that in response to this comment:

They (FUNi) didn't replace that scene, it's still in there. They (Toei) added the cake filler, FUNi just dubbed it. Again, if you have a problem with filler then the blame does not lie on the creators of the English version, it lies on the creators of the original. Therefore the point against filler has no place in this discussion, as the poll asked which version you preferred, Japanese or English, not Manga or Anime.

Sorry, but that logic is BS. FUNi had no control over editing and distribution until after the Ginyu Saga. Up to that point it was Pioneer who rewrote the script to aim the show at a younger audience. FUNi dropped Pioneer after the Ginyu Saga and took care of editing and distribution themselves, hence why everything after that is Uncut and more mature (they also feature different title screens). They then went back and redubbed everything before then (Saiyan, Namek and Ginyu Sagas) to fit in with the rest of the show = uncut with more accurate dialogue that's faithful to the original, and restoring the original number of episodes. It wasn't a marketing ploy at all.

Everything you mentioned after that is personal oppinion and I have no problem with. Some people prefer english and others prefer japanese, that's what the poll, this thread, is about. Personally I think the only person who sounds cool in Japanese is Vegeta and Piccolo, but they still sound better in English imo.

You're talking about 2 different parts of the story, The part when super buu absorbs vegetto and goku and vegeta start wandering around his insides, the dubbed version he goes to a city and eats the cakes in a deserted store, in the jap version he flies above that city, using eyelazers to destroy it and a few generic balls =\. Sorry, but i have seen both versions of that episode, and the difference is exactly as i said, i havent seen the "mega uncut super secks" version so i wouldnt know. To me, speaking as an artist, i thought that alot of that scene in the dubbed version was incredibly badly animated. All i know is that funi sure did add a lot of flashbacks that were not in the original.

If it wasnt a marketing ploy, why was the uncut version only released after the entire series was shown on tv, and after they had been selling the cut version on dvd for quite a few years? I know because i went on a hunt for the dvd's about 5-6 years ago, i couldnt find any uncut versions, just the cut ones. Im sorry, but i just dont like what funi do with anime, neither do i like what pioneer do either. I'd rather that japanese companies were the ones to develop the english versions too.

When i said "i havent seen the "mega uncut super secks" version so i wouldnt know" I ment i hadnt seen that episode, ive seen some uncut versions, but for the reasons ive stated previously, it made no difference to me.

Well, if you saw the American Uncut version, you would notice that it's exactly the same as the Japanese version, just with new music, and the English voices that they used after the Frieza saga.
