this game gets so much nice effects added and i wanted to ask if its possible to add a feature that water can get pushed away by a strong aura.

in dragonball they stood sometimes in water and activated their auras and well the aura pushed away the water.they now stood on a dry ground.

sometimes they got punshed far into water and when they were ssj or stronger their aura made a hole into the water and they stood on dry ground

would be cool if that could be added

Don't think this is possible with the current Half-Life engine, as not even Half-Life 2 has that. The water in both systems are quite "solid" so to speak. You can make it look fancy, place it where ever you want but it won't move one bit besides going either up or down depending on the scripts within the map that is attached to the water. The water itself doesn't have any physics, otherwise it would have been possible. Do correct if I'm wrong (those who are more familiar with it)

I think it would be possible with PhysX but i don't think they will change the game physics just for one additional effect and it would also present some synchronization issues and not to mention the strain on the CPU

I don't think that's what he meant. He wanted to actually make the water move away from the character powering up(imagine Moses and how he separated the sea.. similar thing here)

I know what he meant. But that can't be done.
I just showed him what ESF has and is capable of. :)

You'd need a liquid engine for that, and as far as I know, not that many games have successfully implemented it. They are resource hogs (takes a lot of calculating power to calculate liquid particles, especially in a fast paced game.) Best thing the team can do is use a similar sprite as when you are flying over water.

This kind of liquid simulation, whilst totally and irrefutably awesome, cannot be effectively implemented in a game as yet, especially not one like ESF. It almost makes me cry when I think about the games my kids will be playing...after Ive had my turn playing that is.

Not a single game i know of is capable of doing what this suggestion says. Prerendered cutscenes perhaps. But not gameplay.

Well there are a couple of games that can run liquid simulations. Black & White 2 has a small liquid engine that works when you use the Volcano wonder, lava coming out of the volcano is liquid and doesn't follow a predefined path. The Unreal 3 engine is technically capable of doing liquid physics if I am right. Other than that, I don't really know of any 3D liquid/fluid dynamics in games.

Has anyone ever played a game called Mercury? Played it on the PSP - now that was a freakin awesome liquid simulation. It can be done quite well sometimes, but usually when specialised to do so. Its not the sort of thing that will really work well with high intensity situations, at least for now.

I do remember playing Lemmingball Z and i also remember it had interesting water effects(not quite what LSSJ had in mind but still interesting nonetheless)

Dalte could probably easily make an effect for that, but the water won't literally be pushed away.

Dam no he cant. You know exactly how the water looks like ATM since it preety much works the same as it did when you were still on the team.

*cough* (Watch closely.)
I know. I wasn't really asking whether or not it is there. Maybe i asked the question in a wrong way. I knew it was there i was just asking dam for confirmation(i though he still had access to the beta)

If it was shown in a video officially released by the team then i guess it's safe to assume that it's in. :)

We might be able to do it....it's just that we'd have to redo a LOT of work and it'd eat up a HUGE amount of processing power to the point that it'd be completely useless :p
