Hi all, i was just wondering if any body had a fix for this, when i try to play HL or ESF it goes in to crappy software rendering.

and if i change it to Open GL, its a no go and give me errors and goes back to software mode.

I have just built a new computer and havent yet tryed to see if i get the same problem with my new GFX card, does anyone know if their is a way to use Open GL or Direct rendering in vista or is it a problem that will not soon be fixed?

It runs fine and everything, it just does not look as good as it could.

Well if your GFX drivers are updated than the only conclusion is that HL has poblems with VISTA.

Thats why i suggested that you go to the STEAM forums. Since thats probably the best place to find anwsers to such questions :)

I've been thinking of installing Steam on my Vista box for a while now, this thread seems like the perfect way to try.

The Steam Vista FAQ.

Is OpenGL supported natively in Vista?
No. The video card drivers need to provide OpenGL support.
Also, what's your old gfx card, and your new one? Are you using SLI?

yeah, i have registered on their forums and am awaiting to be alowed to create threads, but i have been searching around their forums and have sound a few similar cases.

I havent tryed HL or ESF on the retail version of Vista yet, and i think that may be why i was experiancing problems, now that i have the retail version and proper non beta drivers, i have read that it now can support DirectX, but ill have to wait and see to try it out for myself as im stuck at work >.<

you can't use OpenGL in vista, but d3d should run fine.

Yeah, I thought it would be a driver issue. Despite all the stories of Microsoft trying to squash OpenGL/OpenAL, they still work in Vista.
