Valve Hammer Editor - Textures not going on my box!

I'm new to mapping obviously, I thought i needed a new hobby so im trying this out. I made a box, and im trying to add textures to it and .. its coming up teal.. probably the defualt color :S

I cant add img and /img do this.. weird. Anyways, can anyone help me?

You sure you have the camera set to view textures? That happened to me a long time ago and I scrapped a whole map because I thought I lost the texture work when I just didn't know that I had Texture View mode off.
