To ascend, hit Z when you have the correct amount of PL (powerlevel).
There's no such thing as PT in ESF.

You fight. Basically every point of damage you deal to an oponent gives you a certain amount of PL. KI attacks give you less PL then melee and hurting someone who is stronger than you will give you more PL then if you were hurting someone who is weaker.
