Aragorn sets out to hunt for Gollum in this independent Lord of the Rings tribute film. The creature must be found not only to discover the truth about the Ring, but to protect the Ringbearer himself from the dark lord of Mordor...

The Hunt For Gollum is an unofficial not for profit short film by a group of enthusiast filmmakers. As a Lord of the Rings Fan Film, it is not affiliated with the Tolkien Estate or New Line Cinema and is being produced for noncommercial use and viewing over the web.

so basically they're telling the tale of the hobbit, from the point of view of a character who was never there? and during that period of time, gandalf was with bilbo, so these events couldn't have taken place.

ugh, i hate fan works. purely from the point of view that the story never integrates well with what takes place in the canon. it's filmed well, but the actors are trying too hard to emulate the work of greater actors and failing. the story doesn't make sense.

fail.

if they'd put that much effort into an original work, it'd get a much bigger applause.

I have to agree with Jesus (because really, who wouldn't agree with Jesus? It's something about the mullet, man). This looks really lame. This would almost be cool if there were at least some good people backing it.

actually it plays between the hobbit and LotR. The details of the story are mentioned in Tolkien's the Simlarillion, and there are some references in the LotR book as well. The film is just about Aragorn's task to hunt down Gollum after he has been released from Mordor. Gandalf is asking Aragorn to do it, Aragorn does it and brings Gollum to Mirk Wood. Everyone else who knows the LotR know's the rest of the story, so it's not pure fan fic there. However since LotR and the Silmarillion only give references on the Hunt for Gollum there is enough room for them to have their own story or whatever they're planning incorporated.

by fans for fans?
it means that it is simply directed by fans for fans, and isn'T supported by some big studio.

actually, the final "chapter" (there's 5) of the silmarillion details a very brief overview of the third age, and the purpose of the rings of power. aragorn was never sent to find gollom during the silmarillion, it happened shortly after bilbo obtained the ring, and took approximately 2 days for aragorn to find gollom, and take him to gandalf for questioning.

a far better tail would be the fall of numenor, the rise of the witch king, the birth of souron as we know him (he was once percieved as a great good), or even of Melkor, the original and true evil.
