1st Video: I understood what they were aiming at, but they went too far.

2nd Video: It was funny and made since but I didn't laugh at all.

I didn't understand some things about the ad at first.

They say they couldnt generate interaction in real time. I thought every game reacts to the player in real time. It wouldnt really be a game if it didn't would it ?--also, it goes on to say that games are were basically big scripts (which is fair enough for many games) and implyed that the real time adjustment wasnt possible until now..on the Playstation 3; Which is nonsense. Animal crossing has absolutely no scripting. Its based entirely on AI and Heuristic Algorithms. There is no way to predict what a character will do next in Animal Crossing. Some more examples are Spore, Sims, ect. I also felt like that ad was giving the impression, that scripting is a bad thing--which is by no means is true. Many games would be terrible without some sort of structure in place. Even Resistance, might be heavily scripted, but that doesn't make it bad game of course.

In a way, I don't like it, but from a marketing perspective, it's genius. This is Sony's legendary marketing at work here. The consumers will easily believe, that there's no other gaming console capable of these things. It will surely be very effective.

Yes, this console is different. It will change gaming forever. All else pales in comparison with it. And if you believe that, you deserve to pay for the same-old same-old, once again packaged as something new and amazing. Yawn.

Isn't the "adaptive AI" thing what HL2 was supposed to have?

HL2 was supposed to have a lot of things lol.

Holding up a soda in front of you to stop a Combine soldier from shooting at you from a mounted machine gun turret != adaptive AI in my eyes

Personally, I thought it was too much talk for an official ad for a next generation console. The majority of that was showing some guy work out with a woman verbally weaving the metaphor for the Playstation 3 with about 10 seconds of gameplay video.

Now I don't remember what previous console ads looked like, so maybe I missed something, but it's going to take a lot more than words to convince a lot of people. They can say the games will play liked never before, and it was a rather good description of what they want you to experience, but how long does it take for you to realize it's for a Video Game Console (yes I know the Button Blood Cells, very nice touch, but it's like those commercials that show a couple out on a lake for Viagra)? And all I saw were First Person Shooter games, which isn't the best way to demonstrate the vastness of this next-gen console.

It's indeed funny how Sony is promoting their console...the features they were describing are funnily enough been around for quite some time, being some indy game dev who created them or companies who offer the library for a reasonable price.<o:p></o:p>
It really has imo nothing to do with the actual console, I do understand that these features might have been to big of a workload for the ps2 to handle but Sony has gone way to far making it look like the ps3 is the only machine in the world that?s capable of the job (since game devs decide whether they want to add them in their game or not). <o:p></o:p>
To just name a few, you have <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Euphoria: http://www.naturalmotion.com/euphoria.htm<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
which makes use of an procedural physics based animation system with some neat features to basically give you practically infinite different animations for certain situations, mostly being used in an action-reaction situation (f.e.: being hit by a baseball bat to the head and letting euphoria take over for the reaction of your character)<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Lugaru 2: http://blog.wolfire.com/<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Being one of my personal favourite game to release, it has shown some very impressive stuff tech wise. For example the fully procedural physics based animation system, unlike euphoria, this system just eliminates the need of an animator as we know them today. Here?s an inengine example of the system being used? <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
http://youtube.com/watch?v=jSHRgM3oPPc<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
(This system was also shown at E3 with nba live 2k7, containing ?footplanting? and what not, and the famous Spore) <o:p></o:p>
So I?m wondering, if a 19 year old indy game developer who has just started his first year at university could create such a system, is it really that big of a deal to make out of it from sony?s or even spore?s side.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Infinity: The quest for Earth: http://fl-tw.com/Infinity/index.php<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Although I have to admit in this case that it is about pure horse power but hey did you look at those screenshots!!! Some people will classify it as a spore clone but it has really nothing to compare it with besides the galaxy being your playing ground. And the fact that this is yet again being developed by people in their free time, it really degrades big companies promoting their product way beyond the border?did I mention the guy is planning on releasing it completely for FREEEE.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
I could also link you to some c/c++ libraries that are ment for a neural AI system which is based on the human brain or some of those more fancy AI systems but it?s mostly code and math gibberish so I?ll spare you that. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
I guess all I?m trying to say is that Sony is using their broad advertisement budget to convince people, who probably don?t surf the net for these kind of stuff, that the ps3 is going to be an ULTIMATE MACHINE that will change the definition of gaming as we know it.<o:p></o:p>

:D My pleasure!

Seems to me they're really jumping on marketing right now. False marketing, but marketing all the same.

That ad was a total bore. The fake ad made me want to buy the PS3 more than the real one.

I like the PS3. I want a PS3. However, they're doing a horrible job marketing it, so I'm really in no rush to get one.
