Emperor Palpatine has spoken!

I'm sure he chose his words carefully, but anyone with a vendetta of sorts against video games is going to consider his response as complete and utter agreement with their views.

I mean, he's the freaken Pope/Sith Lord.

LOL @ the pope

Does he suggest we ban everything? Even video porn, sex mags, sex toys, comic books, anime, games and so on just because our kiddies are being mentally damaged? That's kinda idiotic, since if you start banning one thing, you have to ban everything and banning everything means billions of dollars down the drain.

I really don't think that anyone will agree to do so >_>

The Vatican Museum has basically everything video games have, including art defaced by the church to "keep people from sin". I find it hard to believe he bought a ps2 and started playing video games to see what they're really all about (not that anyone said he did, but how else would he know what videogames have, unless someone is whispering into his ear).

Ah yes, shall we ban art too because they have nude people and violence?

We should just ban TV and burn every tv-set there is!! That's the only way to save our souls!!

@ Frsrblch: Nah, I took that from a news article awhile back. I remember laughing so hard that I had to save it for another time. I'm not saying he's evil or anything, but he really, really, looks like and evil sith lord out to destroy the republic.

I love that argument.

Yes video games screw kids up. Not you know being molested by priests or anything.. Gotta be the games.

Any trend to produce programs and products - including animated movies and video games - which in the name of entertainment exalt violence and portray anti-social behaviour or the trivilization of human sexuality is a perversion
Putting violence aside, I don't really know that I play any games promoting anti-social behaviour or the trivialization of human sexuality. *shrug*

...I'll go back to Wii Sports and Twilight Princess now =P

Twilight Princess has a lot of violence in it, not to mention cruelty to animals. So it should be banned BANNED!!!

Because if I'm going to listen to someones opinion on technology dealing with the children, i'm going to go to the what, the 80 year old pope for that info?

Meh. He's probably never played a video game in his entire life. I don't care that he's the pope, that makes his opinion no more valid.

The only thing screwing people is these days is religion itself.. and that's all I'm gonna say before this turns into a flame war. :p

Then again, you're also saving two entire worlds from destruction.

I think it balances out quite nicely. :p

It isn't right to kill, even if it's to save someone or something, Shiyojin. That's just not how Palpatine rolls.

That has to be photoshopped.
The angle of the shadows and the sinking of his eyes are both natural. I have reason to believe thats the real deal.

*reads what Zeonix said* My reason to believe is now a true belief. That man is the destroyer of souls.

I hate when people obey the pope's opinion as if he had a direct uplink to God in that gigantic hat. What a lot of people don't get is that the pope is a man, chosen to do his job by other men. He's no more holy in God's eyes than the bum down the street toting around his classic "repent! The end is near!" sign.

Besides the fact that he's against anything more innovative than the Model T, has anyone noticed that what hes sugegsting is the same stuff that's been ping-ponged throughout the mass media for a full decade?

And then he suggest what children should be doing with their time

1: Classic Literature; okay, so there's something wrong with modern literature? Personally I like actually being able to relate to the world the book is set in and not have to think like someone who's never heard the term "microprocessor".

2: Fine Art: As in paintings? Ooh! That sounds like seconds of fun! "Okay...it's a woman staring at me creepily...by uh...wtf? This guys wrote his name backwards! Moving on..." So why not modern arts like animation and comic art? At least kids WANT to do those.

3: Uplifting Music: I'm going to assume by "uplifting" that he's refferring to musc with a positive message which conveys happiness. Well guess what Mustapha Mond! Sometimes sadness is a great way to express one's feelings! When you're down, do you want to hear a happy song, or a song that relates to you? Or should we just start taking soma tablets? Oh wait, those are drugs...drugs bad!

Properly censored, of course.
