I knew they were going to run out, but never expected it was going to be yesterday. I saw it on the news as well.

Its been in the making for quite some time. I'm not surprised at all. Cellphones and developing countries swallowed them up like crazy in recent years.

we'll be fine for another year, as long as you're not in Asia, you're fine for the time being.
Anyway, if you're paranoid, start looking for a provider which is IPv6 rdy

I blame america for using up all of the IP's for NAT(thats what I heard anyway).
Like Proz said, don't panic we will be fine for years.

Woo, sounds like we finally have a good excuse to dump gameservers and go with NFO for brbu's TF2 servers. If the IP will change anyway, why not go with a better host?

I'm not gonna lie, I have no idea what an IPv4 is. Someone explain!

Can't blame America for swallowing up the remaining available IPv4 NAT addresses, there are many parties to blame for that. You can, however, blame DARPA and the US Air Force for only designing it for the US Military :p

It's annoying though, writing an IP number is already enough work, IPv6 is a lot more work to write down:

3ffe:6a88:85a3:08d3:1319:8a2e:0370:7344

Talk about confusing combinations.

While its anoying due to the amount of the numbers, but i see no problems with using hexadecimal numbers ^^

I was thinking the same thing. Joining a private server is gonna be a total pain.

I never said there was anything wrong with using hexadecimal numbers. But this looks more like a key for a game or program. And the amount of times I have already mistyped those is enough for me to hate these new IP addresses already.

The real problem with running out of IPv4 is you need cross-compatible technology to read and interpret both, but yeah, it's really no big deal. The internet will go on.

Hardware and crosscompatiblity isn't the issue. Most, if not all hardware already supports IPV6, it's just the ISP's lagging behind cause it's expensive.

Ah it was something like that, there was an incompatibility somewhere that would take time to backwards compatible.

So copy and paste your IPs instead of memorizing them :p
