STEAM?

ok i got steam to work and its 100x worse than won. i went to rosat which never has any lag on won and instead of rosat being all white its kinda black and mega laggy. i have the 24 bit textures off and all the fx qualities are low.
just brand new to steam and i dont see what the hype is

lol rosat is suposed to be blackish check in the GFX foulder in the ESF foulder the name is darkhollow256_**.tga
**is eider of theese (dn, up, bk, ft, lf, rt)

about the STEAM yes it is slower than won thats why i dont play it much and WON more

well i just heard everything is just suppose to run better on steam thats why i got it
i was told there would be less lag

Actually, Steam treats me pretty well. Try changing your video settings Chaos. Make sure your not on software mode or something ridiculous like that.

well i think its just because of the new backround.. the white backround made it run nice and smooth, but this new backround makes it as bad as gero for me now, and gero was just crap.. it was like playing in jello.
btw im only getting 15-25 fps. ive tried most of the steps ive seen on other posts to raise it but none of them work. i was just wondering how people seem to get over 50 all the time.
any ideas?

you need to stop talking if you think steam is worse than won. Steam is so much better. Graphics speed effeciency rendering every aspect owns WON!

look at the first post on this thread brolly.
try playing on rosat on won.. 0 lag unless u have a high ping.
steam = mega lag due to blackish backround. like ive said 50 thousand times i run a 400 mhz processor and i would know that steam is worse than won for me.
dont try to tell me you know more about how my own **** works than me. and i was asking for ideas on how my fps could get a little higher.
AND DONT ASK ME TO READ THE STICKY BECAUSE NOTING ON IT HELPED.
i wanted to know if anyone knew anything that wasnt on there that might actually work


also when i got to fx settings and turn the fx to low and i hit ok(apply doesnt come up) and if i go back into it it says high. and when i turn it back to low it sets back to high again
any help?

I ahve pritty much gone over to steam now except i play other mods on one as there are like 0 servers for steam for some mods. Personaly my lag has increased slightly but nothing major and thats due to the new graphic setting (i got them all to the max)

Well if its 400mghz, its time to upgrade. otherwise, steam will not run like its supposed to.

i dont ever remember rosat being white, it was always the dark greyish color.

u sayd u have put all your graph card settings to performance?, do u use any programs to help get your fps up?, I suggest refreshlock, u can download it from: http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rl/
whats your fps when u look at the ground?, do u know about fps_max ?

PS: maybe won is better for old comp users, but steam is more stable and when u get it up and running its better than won :talk:
and if u got 400mhz, u should really put all settings for better fps, or just buy new comp :laff:

alright ill let it slide now since u guys obvoiulsy havent read my other posts
basically im leaving for hte army soon so buying a new one would be pointless. in a few months yes i will happen.
but for now i have set my fps_max to 100 and put that in in my config file so that isnt the problem.
when i look at the ground im getting 30fps and refresh lock doesnt do anything for me cause it doesnt get past 30 anyways. my gfx setting for my card are all set to performance. one problem i am having though is when i go to customize and try to tun the fx settings to low it keeps turning back to high. any clues on how to set it low?

well, I feel like its "pointless" to help u now :]
what windows u got on your com? if u got xp on sutch slow comp its better u use 2000 or 98 !, and ofcourse formating and updating your drivers, win update..., I hope this helps :smile:

i already use 2000 and everything is updated
i use a mx440 gf4 if anyone would know the best setting for esf on this card
