Try reinstalling. That fixes almost any steam problem.

Thanks for validating your account, it makes things much easier at our end.

The error message is to do with your connection to Steam rather than with ESF itself. How long have you been getting this message? Is there anything that you've done lately that could have caused it? Sorry for the questions, but it helps narrow it down.

Did you try Uninstalling, deleting the remaining folder, getting a new setup from here and then installing again? Since you problem is network related, either something is blocking Steam or you changed some settings by mistake, installing again may change the settings back.

If the problem still persists, either try to remember what you did before running steam and reverse it, visit here first or contact steam support when there is no other option remaining.

Dang. Am at a loss here.

Can you tell us what anti-virus/firewall you are using?

Edit: It seems others are having the same problem as well, so it looks like its probably due to some server problems. So you best bet is trying everyday till it connects.

You'd probably be better off asking this as the Steam forums, since they...you know, have a lot more knowledge on Steam than we do.

You installed DragonMod Z on your router? My friend, you are doing it wrong!

Sorry, I just had to go there.

Apparently, from google, your router doesn't actually have DMZ. Have you tried port-forwarding? https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8571-GLVN-8711 gives a list of the ports you'll need. Although it's unusual that it's suddenly happened, Steam haven't had a client update for a little while.

Whilst we're in the mood, ESF (Extremely Sadistic Firewall) may cause issues with certain routers ^^.

For the final ultimate move, format you pc. Now if that doesn't work, get a new router. Thats the final straw.

Now I might be the only person here not understanding you. But have you even tried to use steam without being connected to your router? Just run a direct line.
