I'm not sure if this is the right board for this, but here goes.

I really wanna make my own stuff for ESF, but sprites seem to be the only thing that I could come close to doing, or doing well.

My question for you guys is this: Can you just use an ordinary program to make sprites, or do you have to make them a special way? I have Photoshop Elements and PSP 8 or something like that. But how would I convert the file to a .spr?

Another question I have might be kind of hard to explain the answer to, so if you don't want to, I understand. If I wanna make a weapon sprite for say, a Kamehameha wave, what would I draw? How big would it have to be? Should I just draw a square of the beam or something like that?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Get SpriteExplorer - http://www.slackiller.com/hlprograms/spritexplorer.zip

It'll allow you to convert images into sprites.

As for the second, open up whatever you want to create from the esf/sprites folder. So if you want to make a new charge for the kamehameha, choose kamecharge.spr and open it up in sprite explorer, copy down the dimensions in Photoshop/Paintshop and make something similar (obviously it can look how you want). Check out Logan's sprite making tutorial here.

Thirdly, moved to Miscellaneous.

Five : don't give up when your sprites look bad >< Since I gave up and its bad...
And also, do a sprite on sheet which is based on darkest variation of black.
And make sure you do it in "RGB color". Then when ur finished with ur sprite frame, you just have to switch mode to "Indexed color"

When I'm about to finish putting all the BMP's together (in Sprite Explorer), it pops up an error that says this:

"Exception catched in Sprite Explorer
Message: Stream read error
Type of error: EReadError
Address: 0041C3EB"

I tried using Sprite Wizard, but I had no more luck...

Is there something wrong with my BMP's? I saved them in indexed color form...
