Sprite Rendering

Hey ESF community.. been a while...

I'm working with a friend to develop a small game over winter break...

For now I'm gonna be developing some simple sprites...
I'd like to make multiple renders of the same object so when it changes direction we just swap out the sprite render (just like in Starcraft) instead of actually writing in code to rotate the object. Can anyone point me in the direction of what type of sprite development that is... a site that's all about sprites... simple game art.. etc

there are some guys that might help you out on Game Artisans, saw a lot there that work with sprites, other than that idk
