Well im not really smart at this stuff but ill have a wack at no matter how stupid my post is. Maybe there video card was intergaded on there motherboard(built into it) and they might have had there settings to high or sumthing and the video card could have burned out and screwed up the motherboard Just a guess

Psh, burning video card while playing a game, nubs =P.

A video card would hard lock or just plain out crash LONG before it would burn out, especially on a half life 1 mod -_-.

A capacitator probably blew on the motherboard due to it being old or faulty.

Nope, even if you overclocked it way too high it would still shut down or just hard lock before it died. Memory may get damaged a little before it crashed, but then you'd only see artifacts.

Could have been poor cooling in a mini-tower. :\

I doubt it was because a few kamehamehas plus a spirit bomb.

Hopefully the server owner is sure the motherboard is burnt and it's not just a screwed PSU.

Heh, there's no way that you could burn your motherboard playing an HL1 mod. Allthough my server computer randomly exploded the other day, it just might have been its time.

well actually it was a NVIDIA 64 MG Graphics card, from the BIGGEST companies, i dont know which one, but i know it was expensive. and the motherboard was brand new..... what i am guessing is that the clien_trace had a "crash" or went too fast and when they met, the ps didnt start and the energy blasts were charging from a bug and when they were charged too much, BOOM.... i dontknow, thats my theory.

How good or how bad a hardware part is, it's always possible to have a piece with a failure in it, I just think it is (how do you say co-insidince... :S) just happened, it could also happened with a game of pacman or something... :p

I had self a very good motherboard ... (no sponsoring :p) and it blew up because some fluid from a condensator leaked onto the power source... :(

They probally suffoctaed it. I once played with a few objects completely blocking the air intakes, and my power box completely fried. I had to start all over cause my hard drives got fried along with them.

Probally the cooling system wasnt working, and then we have silicon tonight.

that's what I wanted to say

the possibility that this was the fault of the currently running game it very low ... HL has no access to hardware ... just the OS has
it was an hardware accident ... overclocking or not enough cooling

especially struggling shouldn't crash anything ... so I don't think it was the fault of ESF

I find it hard to believe that the server wen't down for 3 day's. There is a possibility that the server operator didn't have the server set to auto-restart and didn't notice the server was down till 3 day's after you crashed it.

U like the geforce fx 5200......????? o_O

That card is slow as hell it doesnt beat even a geforce 4 ti 4xxx.

And do certainly not compare 9800 XT with GF FX 5200, 9800 XT smokes the GF FX 5200 with ease.

Ontopic: Hahaha a motherboard burned of a half-life mod?

Yeah right that's impossible....

The server appearendly had serveral games running and possible serveral applications.(Does creating since the proccesor has to calculate serveral applications)

Normally if the heat can get out of the pc it wouldn't be a problem.

Possible the heat just didn't cool off and stayed in pc(no good warm-drainage), burning the motherboard.

I'm surprised that the processor didn't burn out o_O

Usually that's the component that burns :/

Ussually servers don't have good vid cards.

Server don't calculate (That's basicly what the mini-processor on a vid card does) the visual effects of game.

It's just register where guys are(Taking CS as example) and which direction there walking. And sending that data to the clients who recieving it and does showing where there are.(And ofcourse the physics, how should things fall, etc.) Also this explains lag.

If u don't have to big upload(Sending data to the server), your pc is forced to do it in small packs, does u're reaction is slowed down.

Also if u have a slow download(Recieving data from the server) U'll see things that allready happend 2 seconds orso ago.

But getting to the point.....server with a good vid card, bit strange...

It sounds if u're making this up :/
