1) Georgia is too western orientated, according to Russia.
2) Georgia has oil and pipelines running to the west.
3) Both countries want a bigger penis.
4) Russia attacks now because Georgie was about to join the NATO.. Now they're still on their own.

And to whoever mentioned Kosovo caused this: stop being so bitter.

But in short: I couldn't care less, as long as they don't come fighting at my doorstep, I don't give a damn about them killing eachother.

Doubt he'll be doing anything, as a majority of his country is tired of their wars and more than half of the US army is settled in other countries.

Besides, you don't want to go at war with Russia, not while the above mentioned situation is at hands.

He may be an idiot but he isn't so dumb to not know what fear is. We're STILL at war in a Middle East, you know how long a war with Russia would last? Not to mention the draft would need to be reinstated to even think about firing at them.

The reason why U.S. is where it is now as a world power is because we usually picked our battles. This is not one of them. I feel bad for Georgia though, they have guts to stand up for themselves to such a massive country.

You guys act like we haven't been helping Georgia all along. We're probably going to provide them with weaponry and intel. We did the same for Colombia.

this could trigger world war 3
It's possible... but i highly doubt it.

QFT.

Waited for someone to prove my statement. So, yeaah, QFT.
I seriously never heard of the rule that wars will be on a pause while the olympic games are played. So my bad there =P

Also, I JUST got done watching CNN. They had the President of Georgia on for an interview, and he said that an unexploded bomb had the statement "For the Americans and NATO", Or something like that...

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

That's kind of like me writing on a bomb, "THIS WILL EXPLODE!". It isn't exactly a secret that Russia despises America and NATO due to the latter bowing to the former and continuing to expand its ranks despite stating it wouldn't. The goal is pretty much to surround Russia, and having former satellite states join NATO does exactly that.

What's the point of doing this? Take a look, in a book, reading rainboooooow:

That's terrible. Let's hope someone cares enough to help you when your country is invaded by Iran, as a result of it's own aggression.

I think you're assuming he's American. You know what they say about making assumptions. Also, guess who's helping to blockade Iran. That's right. The UK and NATO. Stop putting all of the blame on a single country's shoulders.

Why would you hope such a thing? I didn't wish nor hope for those things to happen over there, but as long as they happen over there, I don't really care.. Sure, we'll feel that war in our economy, but that doesn't kill people, now does it (well, maybe the really poor bums on the street, but nobody cares about them)..

He said he hopes people care for you should the war ever reach your door step. His post is full of goodwill, although he's assuming the war will reach your doorstep.

I know that, and as I've said before, I have even less love for my own government. I've never put the blame on America alone, although I can forgive you for assuming that as there are so many people that do.

Its aggression is quite different from our aggression. I'm not going to argue about it, but the way your post is worded, the blame is being placed on a single country's aggression, rather than the coalition's aggression.

Yeah... because Iran is fully capable of holding an invasion of the US coastline, and there's no way at all that we would be able to stop them.

Why are they fighting again?

I have no clue whats going on. I went to the college today, watched CNN and seen that Russia invaded Georgia.

Wtf?... Explain?
Here's a bit of a more detailed explanation.

The Soviet Union fell and Georgia was born. As time passed by, 3 out of 4 parts of Georgia wanted to go back to Russia. In order to stop the conflicts this caused, Russia sent peacemaking forces in 1992.

Now, one of the three resulting provinces is called Southern Ossetia. Georgia sent some forces and killed 2000 russian civillians, while 30000 became homeless refugees. Not to mention they successfully assaulted the peacemakers. Russia decided to answer.

Oh and this is a theory of mine. Just think about it for a second, you don't have to agree with anything. Do you really think it's a coincidence that Georgia did this the same day the Olympics started? They were counting on Russia actually letting the attack slide because the Olympics is all about peace and friendly competition.

Russians are known for letting things slide, they let the Kosovo situation slide as well (with plenty of frustration, I might add). And yes, I am involving Kosovo, but I'm not saying this has anything to do with it. Curkin merely pointed out Kosovo as an example of how the world is fed up with the American Government's (NOT THE PEOPLE) so-called "peace-making".

Oh **** that, Russia doesn't let anything slide. They act, overreact, and then go 12 levels beyond that to completely obliterate whoever has wronged them as long as they're not warring against the US or NATO nations.

And hell, the only reason there are Russian "civilians" in Southern Ossetia is because Russia decided, "Hey, let's just grant these dudes citizenship." That'd be like Canada granting all of Michigan citizenship. It's ****ed up, and the only reason to do that is to assimilate that country/state on the down low. It's a huge ****slap in the face to Georgia.

Georgia was wrong to do what they did. I won't argue with that, but Russia isn't simply "keeping the peace". This is something they've been waiting for, something they've prepared for and orchestrated, and they're fully prepared to do whatever it takes to take back what they believe to be rightfully theirs. That's why they sent in hundreds of tanks and apc's, bombed Georgian airfields and what have you. They're not keeping the peace. They're waging war and making sure Georgia doesn't have a shot at forcing South Ossetia to remain part of their "Union" or whatever you'd like to call it.

Edit: Did some more reading, and Georgia seems to have been banking on NATO and the US to come to their aid, despite them being the aggressors. I'm not quite sure why they'd think that, other than "WE SENT TROOPS TO IRAQ WTF", but it doesn't take much brainpower to understand how politics works.
