One thing that always looked dodgy in ESF is the transformations. It just looks really dodgy how the players model just instantly changes to the transformed model.

Here's an idea to hopefully make the transformations a lot smoother looking: When transforming, instead of just instantly switching the player model, maybe it should be that a second player model appears during the trans animation, only it starts off fully transparent and invisible. However as the trans nears it's end, the normal player model fades out as the transformed player model fades in. The result would look something like this:

Using this idea, also during SSJ transformations, at different points during the trans animation the hair could flicker gold and black like Goku's and Vegeta's first SSJ transformations on the show.

Although this idea doesn't effect the gameplay, it would be a nice touch.

That would be cool

Umm... Sorry but I don't understand what you mean. Could you maybe rephrase it?

on the goku one, they should make his hair go up a little so it looks like it is changing colors more. I think yall need to give the hair animation when there transforming to ssj. For example goku, it would be nice to see his hair grow like in the show when he went from ssj2 to ssj3.

If you were a modeller, you would understand that that isn't actually possible. You're right though, it would look awesome better if they could do that. It's just the way the normal hair and ssj hair are modelled, it just makes it impossible to do that.

Hate to say it guys, but doing what Jimesu_Evil posted, would cause lag among the server, and the clients within the server. Because, basically, your changing the models, not the skins. Besides, this has been mentioned before, sad to say. It's a great idea, but it just wouldn't work for the Half-Life engine.

actually it would work.... you seen models fade away when they die... well its the same only in its place another model is appearing... and it wouldnt cause lag, do you lag when somone dies and fades away? no and you could put 2 models in one spot.

This idea would actually work and have the hair fading idea everyone wanted.

Do models create a lot of lag? I thought teleporting after-images were fading models, and you can fill a server with them without any lag.

what about doing it like trunks has it, the hair doesn't switch models but ut glows bright yellow and when it's almost done the ssj form comes, it will be almost the same like the currend trans but just with 2 things changes:
1) the model switches before the end of the trans anim.
2) the hair is masked with an sprite effect so you dont have to complain that it is just a model switch.

That's a good idea, but the glowing sprite has to be the same shape as the model's hair from every possible angle, which is virtually impossible since sprites are 2d.

And yeah you're right Trunks and Dust, it would work. As Ravendust said, the afterimage models don't create lag, so why would this create lag? Now, if only an ESF team member would read this... :\

But then you'll have to send a flash effect to averyone that can see the transformation. If you fight and someone transforms nearby, you'll get the effect, which can make you lose. So I think the first idea with hair animating is the best.

The hair should be able to move alittle when you transform or revert. Not standing still hair.

Does hair have bones (modelling term not actual bones)? Because then they could shoot upward into a rough SS-hair shape and the model change won't seem so obvious.

Oh and ZeroNightmare, that blocky spinny thing is supposed to be a Super Saiyan Aura...that's what the 1.1 auras were like :p

Well, I don't think the 1.2 models have hair bones, but that's a good idea imo (even though making more bones for just one animation might seem pointless).
And another thing is Buu, Frieza and Cell's transformations. Those chars don't just change hair style. In this case it might be a good idea to put a short flash effect for nearby players (if you're far away the change is hardly noticed).

I say just have it the way the show has it. When someone powers up insstantly or goes super saiyan, everything turns white for a second, with black line coming from the character, who is colored black (or white) and shadowed with white (or black). Maybe this could be mimiced with a spites for the lines and an edited model to look like the black/white version of the character right before the transformation ends, so modelers don't need to make an animation of the hair going into the right position.
