I love the subtle complexity withing the busy lines of the work. It's a simple shift from light to dark, and the effect is quite nice.

Slig, that looks like mostly brushwork to me. You aren't going to learn anything just by asking what filters they used. Try looking up some tutorials, and then messing around to create your own style.

FLCL is all good but, I think that should be your new sig. The effects are very smooth and this is what I consider eye candy.
