The guy doesn't even explain the Quick Mask tool, which is vastly more powerful (albeit possibly slower) than the polygon tool.

Yea, I usually use the Polygon tool.

I use the pen tool for rendering.. it's a lot of work.. and i used to be too lazy to do it.. but it's really satisfying when you succesfully rendered a nice image.
