I don't know, there are some scary Saleens etc.

A stock Mustang would eat the stock Skyline in a drag race. The Skyline would own the Mustang in motorcross events.

The kind of race matters as well.

True, and i'm pretty sure they're talking about a drag race. I don't really know though, I hate Mustangs with all my heart. And I hate Skylines just as much, just because everyone loves it. I don't see anything good in that car, it's teh suck. I'm all about the luxury + speed kinda cars. Like an Audi or BMW. ;)

Hmm, you have no appreciation for fast vehicles that cut the edge of performance then.

It's not that I have no 'appreciation', they are fast and crazy cars. I just don't like them.

I've always been partial to cars that can handle themselves best in races with a lot of sharp turning and sliding. Though I've always liked the GTRs anyway. Damn 2 fast 2 furious ruined everything about the R that made it cool :p

Specify the year and types of the cars.
I'll compare the 2002 R34 and the 2002 GT Premium Mustang. (Stock)

Mustangs are RWD, 4.6L V-8 260hp, 5 speed, 302 torque @ 4000RPM stock, Weight: 3,500 pounds.

0-60:
6.3 seconds
1/4 Mile:
15.1 @93mph

The Skyline is AWD, RB26DETT(striaght 6) w/ twin turbos, 280hp, 6 speed, 293 torque @ 4400 stock Weight: 3,388 pounds (Note: People claim it's faster then those specs and that Nissan put it at 280hp on paper to get past regulations.)
0-60:
4.7 seconds

1/4 Mile:
13.5 @ 101.92 mph

Now, the R34 would probally beat the mustang in most types of races with it's ATTESA E-TS AWD system (Better cornering w/ fast exiting speeds) In any case, these cars are from two differnt classes, your better off comparing the Mustang to say a 350Z.

Some sources since I dont know all the specs off the top of my head:
Mustang= MSN Autos http://car-stats.com/stats/default.aspx

Skyline=http://www.motorex.net/ and http://www.skylinegtr.com

I'll bump it up to the top dogs later on when I have time.

So, Comming soon....

Theres ur fastest mustang out there (stock, from factory)

http://fast-autos.net/nissan/nissanskyline.html

And theres your 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34

The mustang has a good .6 seconds over the skyline in the 0-60, and is alot more powerful, so in theory, it would win, unless the driver was a complete idiot.
If you compare the fastest Mustang to a regualr R34, it isn't exactly fair. The Skyline you comared it to is the basic GTR and is 4 years older then the Mustang. Lets compare it to the fastest stock production Skyline, the N1. The N1 engine is not resticted to meet legal regulations like the other GTRs since it's not a street car. It's produced for racing.

For a translation, go here http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/
The main stats:
Engine:
RB26DETT
490 hp @ 7200
Torque: 55KGM @5600RPM (I'm too lazy to convert KGM to lbs right now. ;p It's probally around 500 somthing)
4WD ATTESA E-TS PRO
I didn't find the 1/4 mile or 0-60 for this. But, if the base Skyline r34 with 280 hp is only 0.8 seconds slower in the 1/4 then the Mustang that has 390 hp. And the N1 has 490 hp.. yeah...

Also in the Basic R34 vs the Mustang Cobra, the .6 seconds of the 0-60 would make the Mustang faster in a drag (it's 0.8 faster in Drag). But if it was a circit track the GTR would most likely win. The R34 can make up for that lost time in the straights with the corner exiting speeds.

In any case, the GTR is desinged for circit racing car and the Mustang is for drag. They're differnt breeds.

And if you want to talk about company tuned production cars...

1999 Nissan Blitz Skyline GT-R R348
http://www.supercars.net/cars/1999@$Nissan%20Blitz@$Skyline%20GT-R%20R348g.html
850.1 bhp @ 9300 rpm
708.8 ft lbs @ 7500 rpm
Top Speed: 343.3 kph / 213.3 mph
0 - 60 mph: 3.0 seconds

2000 Ford Mustang Boss Concept
http://www.supercars.net/cars/2000@$Ford@$Mustang%20Boss%20Conceptg.html
855.0 bhp @ Not Available rpm
790.0 ft lbs @ Not Available rpm

My guess would be that the Mustang would win in the drag, and the Skyline would win on the track.
